Dep Ed Order will be attached to Google Classroom or in the learning module.

Dep Ed Order Number 96 series of 1997

 Multi grade class is used to include a combination class composed of 2 to 3

or more grades under the responsibility of one teacher.
 The organization of multi grade classes have a minimum enrolment of eight
and a minimum of twenty-five pupils per multi grade classes.

The Budget of Work (BOW) is developed to serve as teacher’s reference in
preparing multi grade lesson plans and other multi grade teaching and
learning activities.
 The multi grades lesson plans must be aligned in the k to 12 curriculums in
different learning areas. The modifying teaching and learning materials
shall be the multi grade lesson plans which were developed during the
orientation on the BOW of different School Division Offices (SDO).

San Manuel Elementary School has the following enrolment breakdown. How will
you implement multi grade classes based on Dep Ed Order No. 96 s 1997?
Grade Level Enrolment

Grade 1 10

Grade 2 15

Grade 3 12

Grade 4 13

Grade 5 25

Grade 6 30

Offering 5 classes

Kinder Class= 1 teacher

Grade 1&2 = 1 teacher

Grade 3&4 = 1 teacher

Grade 5 = 1 teacher

Grade 6 = 1 teacher

Total 5 teachers

To implement multi grade classes in San Manuel Elementary School I used Mixed Multi
Grades which offer a complete elementary curriculum with five teachers, teaching
combination classes and monograde classes.

 The kinder grade that has 18 enrollees will be treated as a single class under the
responsibility of one teacher.
 The Grade 1 and 2 will be combined in one class with the total of 25 enrollees under
the responsibility of one teacher.
 The Grade 3 and 4 will be combined in one class with the total of 25 enrollees under
the responsibility of one teacher.
 The Grade 5 that has 25 enrollees will be treated as a monograde class handled by
one teacher.
 The Grade 6 that has 30 enrollees will be treated as a monograde class handled by
one teacher.

Critiquing of Published articles on Multi grade

Carefully analyze the given research attached in your classwork. Provide data/answer
the questions that follows.

1. What is the main problem of the study?

The main problem of the study is the effectiveness of having multi-grade classroom as
alternative to single-grade instruction. Including the effects of performances between the
students in multi grade school and in a single school. And the requirements of teaching
and learning in multi-grade classroom.

2. Give the summary of research result.

The research evidence indicates that being a student in a multi grade classroom does
not negatively affects the academic performance, social relationships, or attitudes. Miller
(1990) reviewed 13 experimental studies assessing academic achievement in single-grade
and multi-grade classrooms and found there to be no significant differences between
them. The data clearly support the multi-grade classroom as a variable and equally
effective organizational alternative to single-grade instruction. The limited evidence
suggests there may be significant differences depending on subject or grade level. The
differences between the two sorts of classrooms may be more a product of socialization
and expectation than of fact. Clearly, if a teacher in either sort of classroom fails to address
differences among students, the effectiveness of instruction suffers. Likewise, teachers are
harmed when they have not been adequately prepared to teach students with varying ages
and abilities--no matter what sort of classroom they work in. according to Miller, (1991),
there are six dimensions affecting successful multi grade teaching have been identified
from multi grade classroom research. Such as Classroom organization, Classroom
management and discipline, Instructional organization and curriculum, Instructional
delivery and grouping, Self-directed learning, and Peer tutoring. The multi-grade
classroom is not for the timid, inexperienced, or untrained teacher. Clearly, the
implications for teacher educators, rural school board members, administrators, and
parents are far-reaching.

3. Recommend policy based on the result of the study.

 The teacher shares instructional responsibilities with students. A context of clear

rules and routines makes such shared responsibility productive.
 Instructional grouping practices also play an important role in a good multi-grade
classroom. The teacher emphasizes the similarities among the different grades and
teaches to them, thus conserving valuable teacher time.
 Multi-grade teachers recognize that whole-class instruction must revolve around
open task activities if all students are to be engaged.
 Cooperation is a necessary condition of life in the multi-grade classroom. All ages
become classmates, and this closeness extends beyond the walls of the school to
include the community.

4. Write your realization after reading the whole paper.

I realize that multi grade classroom is effective if the teachers, students and
administrators are responsible to their role and together face the challenges. The role of
the parents is to be the partner of the teachers in collaborating for the progression of the
schools and also the students. But teachers have a big part of a multi grade classroom,
because of him/her everything depends, especially on the development of the learners.
While the administrators are responsible to the development and overall success of the
school. The cooperation is the key for multi-grade to be more effective and successful and
continue its innovations.

C. Evaluation/Post Test

Lesson 2: LEARNING STYLES OF CHILDREN

D. Pre-Test/Pre-Activity

 How do we identify intelligences in our students?

To know the intelligence of the students we need to give a quiz or exam that will measure
their knowledge and by giving some activities that will help to identify their intelligence.

Know yourself

Read the activities listed below. Choose at least one activity that you love to do.

1. Sort and classify natural objects, such as leaves and rocks

2. Interview people with knowledge about content-area topics in TLE

E. Activities/Exercises

A. Construct learning plan on the given learning outcomes for Mathematics 1 and 2
highlighting the development of learners’ multiple intelligences.

B. Write an original short story with illustration. The story should be based on your
local settings to integrate localization and indigenization of instructional materials.

C. Evaluation/Post Test

Prepare a video presentation using your own composition (please refer to activity B
above). Be sure that your story has something to do with your culture, cultural values and
traditions.
