Relationship of nutrient cycle and soil

Soil is nature's nutrition recycling system. Organic matter, such as carbon, nitrogen, and
phosphorus, are stored in soil. Also, soil moderates the release of, and cycles nutrients and other
elements; Microbiological activity in soil ensures the turnover and supply of nutrients that are
essential for plant and crop growth, through the inter-conversion of different forms of nitrogen,
sulphur and phosphorus, interlinked with the carbon cycle. These microorganisms are
responsible for the decomposition of organic matter, which regulates the release of plant
nutrients but is also necessary for the preservation of soil structure and the long-term quality of
soil for plant growth.
