Apparatus: Diode, LED, transistor/IC, resistor, capacitor, multimeter. Theory: For identification the appearance and working of each item has to be considered. Diode * Two terminal device. © Conducts when forward biased and does not conduct when reverse biased. LED [Light Emitting Diode] * Two terminal device. * Conducts when forward biased and does not conduct when reverse biased. © Emits light while conducting. Transistor * Three terminal device [emitter, base and collector terminals] IC [Integrated Circuit] © Multi Terminal device in the form of a chip. Resistor * Two terminal device. * Conducts when either forward or reverse biased. * Conducts even in AC circuits. Capacitor * Two terminal device. * Does not conduct when forward or reverse biased. Result :The given electrical components were identified.Activity No: Date: CONVEX LENS Aim: To study the nature and size of the image formed by a convex lens for different object positions. Apparatus: Source box, convex ens, white screen, lens stand, metre scale. Theory: Alens isa transparent medium bounded by two spherical refracting suifaces. The refraction of light rays through a lens obeys the laws of refraction. Procedure: i. Find the rough focal length of the lens using distant object method, ii, Fix the given convex lens to a lens holder and keep it at a position, say at F. iii, Arrange a white screen and adjust it to get a clear image. iv. Note the image position. v. Repeat the step for the object at -, beyond 2F, 2F, between 2F and F. Record the observations. Result: The nature and size of image for different object positions was studied.
