C Manufacturing & Apparel Production Company (CMAP) has been in operation for 50 years.
The company was launched with the aim of creating products for the island’s then thriving
garment industry. For many years, employee numbers at CMAP grew rapidly, and wages were
competitive. Meanwhile, jobs at the company were highly sought after in all areas: production,
marketing, administration, and sales. However, with the rise of globalization, import
deregulation, and computerization, the country’s garment industry became hard hit by cheap
imports, and many firms were forced to close down. During this time, CMAP started to lose
many of its business clients, and efforts made by the company to diversify its operations came
too late.
In 2021, Best Information Technology (BIT) Co. Ltd. approached CMAP with an offer to
purchase the assets of the company. The members of CMAP’s management team considered
the offer to be favourable, but were concerned about the welfare of their 100 workers, some of
whom had been with the company for over 30 years. In their negotiations, CMAP attempted to
incorporate the retention of their employees, all of whom worked under a contract of service.
However, given the nature of BIT’s business, most of CMAP’s workers would have been ill-
equipped for their workforce. Still, BIT agreed to consider taking on about 10 % of CMAP’s
employees, but on a contract for service basis, and only if they adhered to strict ethical
principles, based on the sensitive nature of the business.
Best Information Technology Co. Ltd. believes that CMAP employees are “ill-equipped for their
workforce”. CMAP has asked your HR team to develop a training plan with the aim of
improving performance within a specific department.
ii. Conduct a needs analysis for that specific department. This should include the:
iv. Design/develop the goals and objectives for the training intervention.
As the human resource manager (HRM), you are asked to engage in a negotiation session with
the director of BIT Co. Ltd. regarding the welfare of CMAP workers. BIT wants only 10% of your
current staff when they acquire the company in three (3) months’ time, and they want to hire
them on a contract for service basis. CMAP strongly believes that more of its employees
should continue working, and only on a contract of service basis.
You are required to develop a negotiation plan that would entail:
a. Negotiating style
b. Goals and objectives
c. Pre-meeting questions
d. Compile options or deal design
e. HRM negotiation agenda
Part A
Prepare a two (2) page report, to be sent to the management team, on the information shared
and gathered at the workshop.
Part B
At the end of the workshop, the following assessment sheet was handed out to the participants
for them to complete.
Your HR team has now been given the task of developing a standard security procedure
document containing policies for departing employees. Specifically, your team is required to
design appropriate policies that would require the enforcement of the following measures:
• Disabling all login accounts to any server and local network resources
• Returning all keys, access tokens, and badges to security personnel or supervisor
• Terminating access to company email accounts and cell phones
• Auditing employees’ work area and electronic equipment storage drives/devices
Oral Presentation
Conduct a 20-minute training session with the employees, using the material from Task 1, with
the aim of filling the gaps identified within CMAP.
Your presentation should also include information from Task 3 (Part A) i and ii.
