DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP WEBQUEST 1

The Digital Citizenship WebQuest I created introduces students to what a digital

footprint is and the steps they can take to manage what others find about them online. I designed

this WebQuest for my higher level readers. This past year I always had children who finished

their station work early and this will provide an additional assignment for early finishers in the

future. I will provide a link to the WebQuest on Classkick through SeeSaw and scaffold the

lesson to ensure student success and understanding due to their age. I will assist them with

reading the article as needed and by having students complete the assignment on Classkick I am

able to provide instant feedback. My children love working with technology, so I believe it is

important to make them aware of their digital footprint at an early age. I am eligible to teach up

to third grade, therefore I can use this WebQuest within any grade level and the amount of

scaffolding will vary depending on the age group.

Students will begin the WebQuest by reading an article that provides them with an

understanding of what a Digital Footprint is. Then students are required to answer questions

based on the information they read. The second activity within the WebQuest is a video that

demonstrates to students the impact of their internet activity and questions are provided

following the video for students to answer. The third activity included in the WebQuest is a

choose-your-own-path game that allows students to “walk in the shoes” of one of the eight

characters within the game. Each of the characters is facing a digital citizenship dilemma and

depending on the character they choose determines which digital citizenship topic they will be

exposed to. Upon completion, there are questions for students to identify which character they

chose and what the dilemma the character was facing.

I chose to complete the WebQuest on Canva because I can create an aesthetically

pleasing document and upload any changes made to Classkick. Any changes that are made to the

WebQuest on Classkick are always accessible by providing students with the shareable link. A

positive about the WebQuest is it allows students to learn about their digital footprint at an early

age before they have had an opportunity to negatively impact it in any way. The game is also a

positive because students can have fun while learning about digital citizenship through eight

different perspectives. The only negative aspect of the WebQuest was that I created it using

Canva and had to use another platform to allow for student responses.
