GAS TURBINES OPERATION & MAINTENANCE
INTRODUCTION
The Human Machine Interface (HMI) to the generator set is via a panel-
mounted touchscreen providing Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition
(SCADA) facilities for package operation. An easy to operate system of
graphic and text displays provides comprehensive information on machine
operation, present and past through the following screen displays:
Display Screens:
Each display screen is arranged as three panels with the banner at the top
and the function keys at the bottom of the screen remaining constant. The
main area of the screen is dedicated to the specific screen display ( ie
Overview, Fuel, Alarms, Trending etc) and is selected using the Systems
key or the Trend key.
This s the blue banner area located along the top edge of the display and is
always visible. It provides basic system information including the time and
date, project name, a system status symbol, the screen language (selected
either by touching the flag to switch or on the Preference Screen) and the
status of the communication link between the HMI and PLC's.

The lower edge of the display contains the primary controls used for
navigation of the HMI as follows:

Located at the lower right of the Overview screen are the Stop, Start,
Crank, and Wash buttons. When not available the buttons are shaded..(For
more details see the Overview Screen.)
The Control Temperature and Generator Power set points are adjusted on
the Overview screen
MOTOR CONTROLS
All motors (priming oil pump, oil cooler fans, ventilation fans and start
motor) on the package can be run from the Motor Control Centre. The
motor controls should be left in the Auto position to enable the control
system to operate equipment as necessary. The motors can also be started
from the relevant HMI screens when the engineering password is entered
through the password button.

FUEL CHANGEOVER
Fuel changeover from Gas to Liquid fuel is automatically triggered when the
gas pressure drops to the Low Gas Pressure Alarm level. The process
takes approximately 20 seconds. The return to gas fuel is always a manual
operation using the fuel button on the Fuel screen. Manual fuel changeover
can be achieved at any time (providing both fuels are available) using the
fuel button. The control system will automatically switch from the current
fuel to the alternative fuel.
ALARM HANDLING
The HMI handles alarms in an intuitive manner that makes it quick and
easy to trace alarm conditions. The following example shows how alarms
appear within the System Views. The level of lubrication oil in the tank has
fallen below the Lo alarm level:

When the problem has been rectified and the lube oil
tank level has returned to a normal level, select the
Reset and touch until it turns red to clear the alarm.

SYSTEMS SCREENS
The system views use coloured symbols and animated links to show what
is happening within the particular subsystem. Analogue information and
alarm conditions are also shown in these views.

STOP/START/CRANK/WASH
Located at the lower right of the Overview screen are the Stop, Start,
Crank, Wash and Enclosure Lights buttons. When not available the buttons
are shaded..
Stop button. When a stop is required touch the button, a
confirmation window will appear, touch this to confirm the
stop instruction
Start button. When a start is required touch the button, a
confirmation window will appear, touch this to confirm the
start instruction
Crank button. When a crank is required touch the button, a
confirmation window will appear, touch this to confirm the
crank instruction
Wash button. When a wash is required touch the button to
access the wash screen
Enclosure Light switch. Touching this button will turn on the
enclosure lights for a five minute period. The lights are also
turned on whenever the Fire System is isolated.
To leave the Overview screen select Systems, Alarms, Data or Trend from
the screen and function selection area at the bottom of the screen.

Select Data button and then Live Data to display the data screen.
This screen displays all the Turbine and Generator Data necessary to run
the Turbine. All analogue values are displayed in a digital form and include
complete sets of figures for the following: Fuel and Combustion, Drive
System, Lubrication System, Generator & Electrical and Air.
This screen is also used to select the coloured "pens" to display the
parameters on the Historic and Realtime Trending screens (see over).
Touching the numbered and coloured point at the side of each process
variable allocates a pen to a process variable for display on the Trending
screens.

GRAPHICAL TRENDING
The ability to graphically analyse process data over a period of time is one
of the most useful features of the HMI/SCADA. The application includes
both realtime and historical graphical trending of all analogue process
variables.
The two types of trending are very similar and share many common
features, such as the pen assignment functions. In each trend, four
coloured pens are available for assignment to process variables. The pens
are common to both trends, so if for instance, the red pen is assigned to
the oil temperature (GT_TI-314) process variable, then it will trace this
process variable in both the realtime and historical trend graphs.
Each of the pens can be allocated to a process variable from a data
window or the analogue tools window for a process variable.
Realtime Trending
Select the
Realtime
trending button in
the selection area
to display the
realtime trending
tool. It will remain
visible even if other
pages are selected
The realtime trend
tool provides fixed axis, moving charts of the four selected process
variables. The window is split into two trending displays. The first has a
timebase of 15 minutes and the second displays data from the past 2
minutes. In addition to the graphical representation of the data, the live
values of the four selected variables are displayed at the bottom of the
window. If the window is closed, the trended data is cleared. Realtime
trending will only restart if the window is opened again.

HISTORICAL TRENDING
Historical trending offers the ability to examine data gathered over a period
of time. Comprehensive tools are available on the historical trending page
to giving full control of the data to be viewed. It is also possible to export
this data onto disk for examination using other software, such as a
spreadsheet.
The time selector tool is a special tool that has two useful
functions. The blue pointer can be used on it's own to display
the values of the selected process variables at specific points
in time. Both pointers can be used together to select and zoom
in to specific periods.

NOTE: Historical trending only retrieves data stored on the fixed disk of the
HMI. To view current data on a moving chart, use the realtime trending
facility.

NETWORKING SCREEN
The Networking screen displays the status of the plcs in the control system
and the communications links between them. Fault conditions including I/O
failures are displayed should they occur. The image of the HMI on the left
of the screen indicates the space left on the hard drives of the HMI and the
graph displays the speed of the data link.
The button in the top right of the screen enables the operator to
view information from the other generator for a 10 minute period.
This is indicated by the TAG number at the top of the screen
flashing in red and is designed for continued operation in case of failure of
one of the HMI screens.
Touching on the diagram of the failsafe modules will
display the status and/or fault condition of all of the
channels on the modules. To leave the Networking screen
select the Overview, Systems, Alarms, Data or Trending from the screen
and function selection area at the bottom of the screen.

HV SCREEN
The Generator and Electric screen displays all Generator Data. All
analogue values are displayed in a digital form and include complete sets
of figures for the following:. Generator Power and Reactive Power (both
actual and cumulative), Power Factor and Frequency. Generator output is
also displayed as volts and amps for each Phase. Winding temperatures
for each phase and the discharge temperature indicate the amount of work
the generator is doing. Manual Excitation is available from this screen with
the correct password.

of the gas and liquid fuel system and turbine temperatures. The schematic
of the liquid fuel system (shown in green) displays the fuel storage tank
levels, forwarding pump status, duplex filter differential pressure, high
pressure pump status and delivery pressure, block and recirculation valve
position. In addition a schematic of the Starting Air Assist Raft is shown in
blue, displaying valve positions and the ratio of CDP to Air pressure. A
schematic of the gas system (yellow) displays the fuel treatment skid
heater status and gas temperatures, delivery pressure and temperature,
filter differential pressure, block and vent valve position and fuel metering
