It is meant to enable students to have an exposure of the IT world and any field that is
related to the program. I was attached at Craft Silicon Ltd. The attachment enabled me
to gain more understanding of networking, computer software, computer maintenance,
end user requirements, organization’s IT resource management and security and trends
in IT.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Kabarak University has a 4-year honours degree where the 3rd year is the "attachment"
year - ie, the student is required to spend 3 months at a relevant (to the course)
'stakeholder' company. Industrial attachment is a prescribed period of hands on work
experience in a relevant industrial setting.
The industrial attachment is meant to provide practical skills to students and for them to
appreciate the work in the industry before being fully employed after completing their
studies. By going through this phase the industrial attachment period equips the student
with handy realistic practical skills. This means in the field there are quick to exert this
expertise on any task. Lesser skills training time is needed to equip such persons. This
means our graduate students are well prepared for the industry when they finish their
studies.

CHAPTER 2

OBJECTIVES
The objectives for industrial attachment of students pursuing Bachelor of science in
Computer Science can be stated as follows:

1. To give the student an understanding and the basic skills required for every
stage of the production chain; the operational function of the production
processes, equipment and production management.
2. To expose students to behaviour of business organisations as they strive to
align themselves to the evolving external environments which provide
opportunities as well as threats to them.
3. To afford students the opportunity to test their theoretical tools and constructs
learnt during their first two years of the degree programme with the realities of
running business organisations in Zimbabwe.
4. To enable the students to develop realistic expectations with respect to the
world of work, the role of being employees and, to experience what it takes to
work with others, as well as to work within a generally structured environment
in authority, responsibility and role terms.
5. To solicit the assistance and experience of managers, supervisors and training
officers, in training and developing personnel who will be capable of initiating
and conducting research; supervising industrial production and, marketing the
