1.1 Pearls in rings:

First the fragment of pearl jewellery found in the sarcophagus of a Persian princess that dates
back to 420 BC, which is now on display at the Louvre in Paris. Pearls were presented as
gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewellery was
considered the ultimate status symbol. The abundance of natural oyster beds in the Persian
Gulf meant that pearls also carried great importance in Arab cultures. The abundance of
natural oyster beds in the Persian Gulf meant that pearls also carried great importance in Arab
cultures.

With such a long and ancient history, it is no wonder that, over time, the pearl became
shrouded in myth and legend. In ancient China, pearl jewellery was said to symbolise the
purity of the wearer while, in the Dark Ages, knights often wore pearls on the battlefield,
believing that the precious gemstones would keep them safe.

Pearls have been an important trade commodity since Roman times, and the discovery of
pearls in Central and South America in the 15th and 16th century led to the so-called Pearl
Age.

1.2 The Blue Marble Tree Bead Necklace:

The genus Elaeocarpus includes about 60 species of trees in the Old World tropics. It belongs
to the elaeocarpus family (Elaeocarpaceae), along with a dozen other genera of tropical and
subtropical trees and shrubs. The fleshy drupes of some species resemble deep blue marbles.
The Australian species (E. grandis) is called the "blue marble tree." It is a tall tree that is
cultivated in tropical regions of the world, including the Hawaiian Islands. The drupe
contains a woody, intricately sculptured endocarp that surrounds several small seeds.

The endocarps are often strung into attractive necklaces and leis. They are also strung into
prayer bead necklaces. According to Peter Francis (1984), the species most commonly used
in India for prayer beads is E. ganitrus, also listed in some references as E. sphaericus. The
endocarps are known as "rudraksha beads," and were worn by Shiva worshippers at least
since the 11th century.

2.2 EVA Foam in Shoes:

EVA plastic can be ‘foamed’ in a couple of different ways, each of which introduces bubbles into the
raw ingredient. When the plastic is in a semi-liquid state a blowing agent can be introduced as a
solid. When the combination is heated, the blowing agent will expand and turn into a gas, leaving
bubbles all throughout the plastic. This can be done in a large heat press to produce sheets of the
material, although these days it’s usually done with an injection machine that uses a hydraulic ram
to compress and heat the EVA before it’s quickly released, allowing the foam to expand, this is
how Crocs are made. The other method uses pellets of EVA mixed with pellets of a blowing agent.
The combined ingredients will be compressed in a mould, where the pressure will heat them up,
before they’re slowly cooled. The resulting foam from these methods will still need to be re-heated
and formed into its final shape before it can be used as a midsole.
Once we have the material, it can be formed into shape in a few different ways.
First it can be cut out of a sheet, as with older styles like the Nike Cortez, which
has a single piece and a wedge attached to the outsole before the edges are buffed
for an even finish. One of the more common methods for modern sneakers is cold
pressing. After the sheets are cut into a rough shape they’re heated up and pressed
into a mould, which is cooled and gives midsole their details. These foams are used
in modern day athlete’s shoes.
