LESSON PLAN

NAME : CHANCHAL DATE :-

L.P NO:-2 DURATION :- 40 MIN.
TRADE :- DRAUGHTSMAN CIVIL
TITLE : ROAD
OBJECTIVE :- At the end of this lesson trainees should be able to tell :-
1. Introduction to road.
2. Alignment of road.
3. Technical terms of road.
4. Advantages of road.
PREPRATION:-
1. Teaching Aids:- Marker , duster , whiteboard , charts etc.
2. Instructional Material:-Highway engineering book , internet.
PRESENTATION :-

1. MOTIVATION:- As we all know road plays a very important role in our daily life. The world’s oldest known
paved road was constructed in Egypt sometime between 2600 and 2200 BC. In ancient times, transport by river
was far easier and faster than transport by road. But in present time roads provides a convenient mode of
transportation and reduces the time of travel.
2. INFORMATION:-
TOPIC INFORMATION POINTS SPOT HINTS
 Introduction A road is a through fare rout or way on land between two
of road places that has been improved to allow travel by foot or
some form of conveyance include a motor vehicle car, cycle
etc.

 Alignment of Road alignment is the position occupied by the centre line of

road the road in plane. The centre of the road is marked before is
actual construction.

 Technical Carriage way : the passion of the road which is use for regular
terms of road traffic.
Footpath : it is the passion of a road way reserved for the
pedestrian.
Motor way :the part of a road which is use by high speed
and power driven vehicle.
Formation width:- it’s a top width of an road embankment or
bottom width of cutting excluding the side way.
Kerbs: these are the boundary between the pavement
footpath, or shoulder.
Camber: it is the convexity given to the curve cross section of
a carriage way.
Gradient: Gradient of grade is a longitudinal slope of the rate
of rise or fall of formation level of a road along the alignment.
Design speed: it is the maximum speed of vehicle assume for
geometrical design of a road way.
Sight distance: it is the distance along the centre line of at
which the driven has visibility of an stationary object or
moving at a specify hight above the carriage way.
Super elevation: cross slope to the road rising outer edge
with respect to inner edge to balance the centrifugal force
Right of way: it is the land secure and reserved for
development of a road.
Shoulder: these are the position of the road way between the
outer edge of the pavement and edge of the top surface of
embankment of inner edges of side drain.

 Advantages of Road provide the movement of goods , people, raw

road material etc. easily and speedly , important role in
defence of a country during war days, establishing
contact between village and town, helps in making
social and cultural advancement of people.

 APPLICATION : -
QUESTION :- 1. What is road?
2. What is road alignment?
3. What is carriage way?
4. What is super elevation?

5. SUMMARY:- Today we are study about road and alignment of is occupied centre line of the raod in
Plane before construction and technical terms of road the make identify the part of
road example. Carriage way, footpath, camber, shoulder , super elevation etc.

6. EVALUATION: - Write five technical terms with definition?

7. ASSIGNMENT: - Write short note purpose of alignment of road ?

8. NEXT LESSON :- Classification of road .
