LINEAR REGRESSION ANALYSIS

- It is a simple statistical tool used to model the dependence

of a variable on one (or more) explanatory variables
- The functional relationship then be formally stated as
equation with associated statistical values that describe
how well this equation fits the data
- A simple linear equation is the least estimator of a linear
regression model with a single predictor (or one
independent variable)

• REGRESSION EQUATION:
- The regression analysis equation is being used to predict
the value of the dependent variable:
Y = a + bx
Where:
x = the value of any particular observations of the
independent variable
y = the value of any particular observations of the
dependent variable
b = slope of the regression line
a = intercept of the regression line

✓ EXAMPLES:
STEP 1: Construct the columns for x, y, x2, and xy

STEP 2: compute for slope (b). solution:

STEP 3: compute for intercept (a). solution:

STEP 4: substitute the values of b and a determine the

linear regression equation
STEP 5: predict the time it will take the average student
who has a typing speed of 72 words per minute to learn
the word-processing program

Therefore, it will take the student 68 hours to learn the word-
