16 Personalities Reflection

The traits listed on the 16 personalities official article for the Architect personality type
(INTJ) wrote about how the Architects of the world are incredibly self-motivated or driven, have
high standards for their work, are incredibly curious in nature, and love taking on all sorts of
challenges and perspectives.
These traits, however, do seem to me like they might hinder their abilities in many
common office-type of workplace environments for a few reasons. Most importantly, I think that
Architects would find trouble in standard work environments because of the presence of a
manager or boss that would often oversee their work and might nitpick and try to control their
work and methods, which would drive an Architect personality type to madness. They appreciate
their autonomy and like to be in control of the way they work. They also may find trouble with
following rules that they find ineffective, which can lead to a lot of conflict with coworkers and
higher-ups when they get fed up with or break the rules. Architects’ typically rational and
unempathetic nature may also prove to be a hassle to work with, and they may drive people away
in a setting that actively supports and endorses group work.
These traits could possibly be problematic for me, as I wish to go into the medical field,
which operates under many rules and regulations, and is built heavily around working with
coworkers. I doubt that I would find a problem with the rules a hospital runs under because I
would be able to see why they have those rules set in place, and most, if not all of them would be
in the interest of people’s safety, which is difficult to argue against. However, I may find issue
with working with lots of people on a regular basis, because I already have some trouble with
that at present, though I am taking strides to overcome my impersonable nature.

I do feel that the assessment given to me is accurate to the way that I am. The Architect
personality type is intensely curious, keeps their mind open to new ideas and ways of thinking,
has a strong internal drive, and takes pride in their work. I believe these traits accurately describe
me. I like to learn new things just for the sake of it, like when I started learning some Russian on
a whim after watching a movie. I really like seeing other people's points of view, and I often
change my own in accordance with a theory or idea that makes the most sense to me. I like to
take pride in my work, and I often work on something until I’m satisfied with its execution, like
when I revised and re-revised a song I was writing for a whole month before I was properly
satisfied with it. However, sometimes I find it hard to muster the motivation to do certain things,
like coming up with new ideas for art and music, or sometimes I might slip into a brief fugue-
like period where I don’t have the motivation to complete my work to the best of my ability and I
just “get it over with.”
