“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree

without roots,” Marcus Garvey. For decades, history has been taught in schools. Some
believe that this subject should be removed all together and replaced with a more relevant
subject. This is far from the truth. With the ongoing events in the United States, there is no
better way to handle the situation than to educate our children on the past so they can fully
understand the present. History can teach us many things such as morals and ethics, good
governance, and financial success.
The study of cultures and societies provides many implications of morals and ethics passed
down over the centuries. Our forefathers have developed morals with great reasoning that
history can show us. Without history, we are left with no meaning behind laws we put in
place. Learning about these ethical principles allows for good individual morality. Good
morals mean having the ability to identify between right and wrong. A commonly known
moral is that murder is wrong but with the leftist party spreading its radical ideas, killing
newborns has become allowed in some states. Where would our morals stand without the
foundation of history?

History teaches us to learn from the mistakes of the past and avoid repeating them. In this
way, students should learn about their ancestors and all their foolish mistakes. They will
become more aware of, for example, power and how it can control you and make you greedy
for more. Although we cannot fully put an end to our errors, we can lessen them with the
hopes of not repeating history.
The leaders of the past have taught us many things that are very important for human
progress. If we choose to ignore them, we will be left as a people with no guidance and a
confusing path to follow. This is why history is one of the most, if not the most, reliable
source we have. We must hold on to it.
