Kitchen Renovations

Purpose of Report

The purpose of this report is to document the progress of the kitchen renovations being made at my
home. We started these renovations in October 2021 and have March 2022 as a target month of
completion.

• Set target to have new refrigerator and stove purchased and delivered in the month of October.
• Purchased refrigerator on October 2, 2021. Arriving on October 10, 2021 installed new
refrigerator.
• Purchased new stove on October 10, 2021 and installed it upon arrival on October 19, 2021.
• Decided to wait on purchasing new microwave right away due to the desire to complete bigger
projects first.

November
• Went to Home Depot on November 10, 2021 and looked over paint options and cabinet handles
to modify current kitchen cabinets. Successfully made purchased on paint, paint brushes,
sanding machine, and cabinet handles.
• November 11, 2021 successfully dismantled the cabinets and completed the sanding process.
• Completed painting all the cabinets on November 12, 2021.
• Successfully reassembled and installed the cabinets with new handles on November 13, 2021.
• Went over measurements, decided on which type/style of sink would be a compatible fit, and
successfully purchased new sink on November 22, 2021.

December

• New sink was delivered on December 2, 2021. Completed installment on December 3, 2021

January
• Purchased new dishwasher on January 18, 2022.
• Dishwasher arrived on January 29, 2022 and began installment that day.

February
• Completed installment of dishwasher successfully on February 4, 2022.
• Successfully purchase new tile for kitchen flooring on February 10, 2022.
• Have not decided on which countertops to purchase and have not begun installments.

March

• Running behind schedule on flooring due to delay on countertops not being complete.

Problems Encountered

• Made the decision to wait on purchasing a new microwave in October because we felt that
larger projects scheduled took priority and our demand for a new microwave wasn’t immediate.
• While reassembling cabinets, some cabinets did not fit correctly back in their normal locations.
Some cabinet doors were put in the wrong locations leaving gaps. Some drawers required new
screws to place new handles.
 • After removing the old sink, the new sink did not fit in the old sink’s placement despite precise
measuring. The new sink would not fit due to the style of the sink tubs being different, so I had
to use a router to enlarge the hole.
• Before removing the old dishwasher, I shut off the water to the house and disconnected the
power to the kitchen due to water hoses and electrical wires having to be disconnected.
Unaware that the wrong water valve had been closed, the kitchen was flooded after
disconnecting the water hose from the old dishwasher. Cleaning this mess caused a two-hour
delay.
• After completing installation of the new dishwasher, the power to the kitchen only partially
returned after flipping the breaker. This left us with four outlets in the kitchen without power as
well as no power to the dishwasher. After pressing the GFCI multiple times there was still no
power to these outlets nor the dishwasher. On the third day without power to the four outlets
and dishwasher, we called an electrician who arrived and pressed the GFCI with a screwdriver
and power was restored.

• Still have not purchased a microwave wanting to complete larger projects first.

February
• Countertops have been delayed due to indecision.

March
• Have not reached target date to change the flooring but will likely be delayed due to
incompletion of the countertops.

Conclusion
• This project is more than 50% complete despite problems or delays. Target dates will be set
back to the earliest convenience so that renovations can be complete before the end of the
spring season.

Recommendations

• I recommend being more decisive on products desired when planning a renovation project and
being aware of where correct water lines and electrical breakers are located.
