SYNOPSIS
SYNOPSIS:
Aim:
To create an illustration with mixed medium of painting i.e. watercolor and ink (pen) rendering
that resembles a particular abstract in a monochromatic and Desaturated form.
Objective:
• Exploring different techniques of watercolor and inking such as brush strokes , line works,
and color concepts etc.
• Studying Various composition that relates to abstract of a painting.
• Studying tint tone shade of warm and cool colors to produce depth via monochrome mixing
of colors.
Methodology:
• Analyzing data for execution of the abstract of the frame.
• Determining best elements to fit the frame that depicts the abstract.
• Establishing composition that best fits the abstract and the sense to be conveyed via the
frame.
Scope:
• The frame shall create a sense of completeness and composition although usage of plenty of
line works (inking) in a chaotic texture.
• Although monochromatic and desaturated in nature but the frame shall be able to portray a
cool and peaceful vista.
Limitation:
• Fine arts is very much subjective to the viewers. Likely what is cold and peaceful to one
might resemble death and emptiness to others.
• Mixed medium usage has more critique citation.

PRIMARY DATA
Primary Data: From Book
Introduction:
In fine art, the term 'pen and ink' denotes a drawing technique involving the use of
black and other colored inks which are applied to a support (generally paper) with either a
dip pen or a reservoir pen .Watercolor is a method of painting using a combination of
colored paints and water. The term watercolor can also refer to a picture painted in
watercolor or to the paints themselves.
Mixed media in art history came into being after the producing of cubism
painting in the 20th century. It emphasizes the authenticity and falsity of painting,
mixed various media into painting. That is to say, mixed media includes a wide range of
materials. In painting, it is no longer limited to the basic materials of various painting
like carrier, pigment, pen and so on, it has extended to natural media, industry products,
daily disposals, chemicals like clay, glass, cigarette end, chemical reagent and so on.
Watercolor mixed media painting includes all the materials that enable to combine
watercolor language or suitable to express watercolor painting. Watercolor works using
different media to express different style and feature, which is different from
traditional watercolor in form and content, can improve the comprehensive
expressive force of watercolor works.
History:
• Color followed, with the line still used for drawing and modeling of form. It was not
until Winslow Homer appeared, that watercolors became a medium to be handled
directly on the spot in a broad manner. Water color continues to be a medium that
lends itself readily to painting on the spot, and working directly from nature is the
most vital part of learning to handle it, aside from the original intention of studying the
various aspects of nature.
• Artists from several ancient cultures used ink in their fine art drawings. One of the
earliest surviving images in Greek art, drawn in pen and dye (on papyrus), is The
Abduction of Brises (c.300 CE) by an unknown Greek artist .
• However, the medium was developed to a high degree in Chinese art during the era
of Tang Dynasty Era (618-906) and Song dynasty arts (960-1279), and thereafter in
Japan during the Murom chi period (1338-1573). Indeed, pen and ink has always
been the main medium of Asian Art and calligraphy in China, Japan and Korea.
• Element & Principle of Design:
The design of a painting is its visual format: the arrangement of its lines, shapes, colours,
tones, and textures into an expressive pattern. It is the sense of inevitability in this formal
organization that gives a great painting its self-sufficiency and presence.
Elements of Design:
1) Line: Each of the design elements has special expressive qualities. Line, for
example, is an intuitive, primeval convention for representing things;

universally understood.

2) Shape and Mass: Shape and mass, as elements of design, include all areas of different
colour, tone, and texture, as well as individual and grouped images.
Oval, lozenge, and rectangular forms
suggest stability and protection and often
surround vulnerable figures in narrative
paintings.

3)Colour:In many styles and periods of painting, the functions of colour are primarily
decorative and descriptive, often serving merely to reinforce the expression of an idea or
subject communicated essentially in terms of line and tone.

mixtures.
Janet Cook layers pastel over bright water media underpaintings to create scenes that
positively pulse. Color plays a central and complex role in Cook’s work and is one of the
first characteristics viewers note about her lush mixed-media landscapes and detailed
mixed media portraits. Cook feels that no medium meets the challenge of working with
intense and saturated colors more than pastel. “Pastels are such a great way to trigger an
artist’s imagination, especially in his or her use of color,” she explains.
2) Mixed Media Landscape:
Cook prepares a landscape painting by applying layers of pastel. She seldom blends
pastels, preferring instead to crisscross colors of the same value to create simultaneous
contrasts that make the colors more complex and the work more vibrant. She leaves
approximately 5 percent to 15 percent of the underpainting showing through to imbue the
piece with a sense of harmony. 7

3)Mixed Media Collage:
Irwin began this painting by preparing a
hollow-core wood door panel with gesso.
He worked from two palettes: a plastic one
on which he mixed acrylic paints and one
on the floor, where he scattered torn
pieces of paper. He adhered torn papers of
varying weights, textures, and colors with
acrylic matte medium. Irwin applied the
layers of paper in a process he describes
as “thoughtful, intellectual, purposeful, but
also visceral.” For this work, he applied
little acrylic until the final stages. Follow the
step by step demonstration to create a
mosaic art collage.
Contemprorary Art:
Contemporary art is the term utilized for
the art of the present day. Generally,
the artists are alive and as yet making
work.
Contemporary art is regularly about
thoughts and concerns, as opposed to
exclusively the aesthetics (the look of the
work). subtle elements encompassing this
definition are regularly somewhat fluffy, as
various people's interpretations of "today"
may generally and fiercely vary.

Ongo gablogian War Nazi Painting
Ongo Goblogian an artist with contemporary ways and ideas expressing the
history war time and the depth of human emotions in past , at the time of partition of
Germany and Poland after WW2.The painting keeping it minimalist and with basic colour
scheme put front the pain and agony within the people of that time.
Historic War Paintings shows the after effect on the social and mental
impact on human so that it won’t repeat. The straight and long lines shows the distance
and the lack of connectivity to their dear ones .The eyes one being blue showing the
disappointment and the other eye showing lost in new world. Art is the only way to
connect the past to present and show scope in ideas for future

ANALYSIS
Analysis of my own work: Some of the basic principles my frame inherits are as
follows.
1) Painting: Painting is the process of applying paint to a surface using tools such as
brushes, a roller, a painting knife, or a paint sprayer. Medium or media is the material and
tools used to make a work of art. Technique is the method and procedure used with an art
medium.
11
2) Inking (Pen) as a medium of sketching:
Inking is basically the attributes in a frame that deals with strokes and hatch that
enhances a better understanding of the form and shape. In other words it can be
described as line work to portray form, space , depth and ambience in a particular frame.
