“LEADERSHIP AND LEGACIES: THRIVING AS YOUNG LEADERS IN THE NEW NORMAL.

JOHN B. LACSON COLLEGES FOUNDATION - BACOLOD INC.

SUPREME STUDENT GOVERNMENT
LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND SEMINAR 2021

Rationale:

The pandemic has changed the landscape of the educational system not only in the country but
in the world in general. The limitations of conducting in campus activities for the welfare of the
students has indeed posed a challenge to the budding leaders taking the helm in the student
government organizations. However, this is not the end, but rather an opportunity for our
student leaders to grow and learn.

This leadership training program will equip our student leaders with the skills and inspiration so
that they may be able to deliver their services to their fellows. Our set of invited speakers will
surely motivate them to thrive amidst the challenge posed by the pandemic.

Leadership and Legacies are two words that would create positive impact to the community
when fully embraced by our leaders. This goes beyond leading but rather leaving a legacy to the
community, which may only be achieved when our leaders would use their minds and their
hearts in performing their duties.

END OF PROGRAM

ABOUT I AM A LEGACY

I AM A LEGACY is a group of graduates coming from the yearly Legacy Camp. It envisions people
reciprocating development and empowerment. We started with a group of friends from the 1st
Legacy Camp who had built strong ties with our mentors. We all had the similar experience of
inconsistency in other leadership training, camp, and seminars that we have attended, thus
participants would usually go in their own separate ways losing the connection and the potential
from these young leaders. After the 1st wave of the camp, we believed that there is so much
that can happen to a camp as long as graduates will keep in touch to replicate the outreach
programs in their own simple way. On the year 2015, we have formally created a Non-
Government Organization with its flagship project continuing “The Legacy Camp”
PROFILE OF SPEAKERS
MR. JEMUEL GARCIA

Jemuel jr. Barrera Garcia, never dreamt to be a teacher. However, he found himself embracing
teaching as a permanent instructor of physical education, teaching dance, sports, pedagogy,
human movement and performance at the West Visayas State University Main Campus in Iloilo
City since 2009 to 2017, when he took an official study leave.

Having been raised from humble beginnings in the Province of Aklan, jemuel took it to heart that
for him to finish school, he has to overcome life’s realities. Never letting go of his non-
negotiables, he graduated as magna cum laude, became a licensed professional teacher, and was
awarded as one of the Philippine American Educational Foundation and the U.S. Embassy’s
Fulbright Foreign Student Program fellows in 2017.

Even though a lot of people expected jemuel to be a doctor or a lawyer, he took the seldomly
travelled path and pursued his passion for dance. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in
Physical Education, double majoring in sports and dance and a master’s degree in P.E., dance
stream, both at WVSU. At present, he is a 4th year Ph.D. Candidate in Critical Dance Studies with
a Designated Emphasis in Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Riverside, USA.
He has performed in local and national events and competitions and represented the Philippines
in international conferences and cultural exchange programs. His choreography, which grounds
itself in elements of Philippine dance, has been performed in countries like the USA, Spain,
Germany, Thailand, and Japan.

Jemuel strives to be a movementeller--- a storyteller and mover combined. Photography is his

memory. Theater is his alter-ego. Comics is his childhood. Writing is his expression. Music is his
heartbeat. And dance is his voice.
