Oral or online communication

Prepared by: María del Pilar Sandoval Cabarcas

Introduction
On this occasion it is appropriate to discern the differences between oral
communication and online communication, and trying to understand why there are
still opponents to communicate communicating through the internet. The purpose
of this study paper is to compare some of the characteristics of these forms of
communication that are imposed with the advent of information and communication
technologies. I hope to show that there are more benefits than difficulties in online
communication.

Time

The technological revolution is here to stay. According to the study of

Mediaplanning, (cited by George, 2006), "are 10 minutes Internet reduces face to
face communication and 25 minutes on the sacrifice of sleep users to surf the Net".
On the other landhand, the time spent watching TV can be as much as time spent
online. In contrast, is very important think: about how the use of the internet
extends to other activities, such as education and job searching, while the TV is
only to for entertainment it. On the other hand, in a society where time is
measured, the agility of online communication is necessary to be connected in a
globalized world. In contrastAs proof to critics of asynchronous communication,
programs like Skype and Meebo can develop real time conversations.

Emotions

Another aspect that is strongly criticized is the lack of emotions in communication.

Some critics argue that online communication through writing is not allowed
allowing students to express emotions. However, this need is supplied fulfilled by
popular emoticons. The emoticons are held in the Netspeak. According to David
Crystal (2002): "the Netspeak draws on features that belong equally to both areas:
orality and writing." You can also write the words that are spoken with emotion.
This issue promises to be enhanced with major developments in the future. The
hardware division of Microsoft has designed a keyboard that records emotions
through 8 levels of pressure that it is able to detect.

Costs

The online call costs can be reduced to 74% by using the PC calling system to
instead of your phone. This cost varies by market, whereas in traditional telephony
telephone usage, it depends on the time of connection. In addition, you can call a
landline or mobile anywhere in the world. Nevertheless, the quality of
communication may vary depending on internet connection and speed.
Additionally, its use is restricted to persons who possess the necessary
technological equipment: a computer with modem and telephone line. It is
necessary to lower the cost of technological equipment to achieve its
massmaximum potential.

Conclusion

The communication time is important, and the quality of relationships is as well.

Emotional expression is an issue that somehow is supplying and the same man will
need to for develop more mechanisms of online expression online to be developed.
There are more benefits than difficulties in that online communication may cause,
however, the pleasure of oral communication can´t missbe mistaken. Not only
would it be a mistake, but also very dangerous, to cut out oral communication
completely.
