About: Stainless Steel
Form of steel containing chromium, making it resistant to rust and
tarnishing.
Contains Min. 10.5% of chromium.
Different types of stainless steel:
1. Ferritic 2. Martensitic 3. Austenitic 4.Precipitation hardening
5. Duplex
Stainless steel is generally divided into different grades i.e. 304,
304L, 316, 316L.

About: Edible Oil
Edible oil is plant, animal, or synthetic fat used in
frying, baking, and other types of cooking.
Edible oil is typically a liquid at room
temperature.
Every Indian used an average of 19.5
kilogrammes of edible oil per year.
This equates to a total demand for edible oils of
roughly 26 million tonnes per year.

10
Edible oil:Imports
India's edible oil import annual rate is 8.4%, over the
last decade.
15% of total imports are refined oils.
Palm oil is the most often imported edible oil.
Imports of soybean oil have also risen considerably.
Vegetable oils account for more than 50% India's
total agricultural imports.
India's Edible Oil import bill is over Rs. 70,000 crore.
At the very same time, it accounts for a really small
portion of our exporting.

About: Mild Steel
Mild steel is by far the most prevalent type of steel.
Low cost.
Prone to corrosion.
Can't be used without coating.
COATING:
Phenolic resin.
Epoxy resins
Zinc silicate
These coatings are determined hazardous for the workers and can trigger
allergic reactions. poisoning, fume fever, breathing problems, jaundice etc.

13
BIS Standards
Material for Construction:
All materials used in the construction of tank including Shell,
End Plates, Partition, Baffles, Stiffeners and ancillary
equipment such a manhole door, outlets, outlet valves,
internal ladder shall all be made of stainless steel grades.
Mild steel shall only be used as a support metal in the
manufacturing unit.

Primary Research: Findings
Out if the primary research survey conducted on over 350 different edible
oil manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, tanker and storage
manufacturers etc.
274 responses were successfully conducted.
The direct enquiry questions included: knowledge about the new BIS
standards, material used, current supplier, current requirement and grade
used by the manufacturers.

16
17
18
Conclusion:
Reason for BIS's limitations of Mild Steel in the edible oil segment are:
Tendency to Corrode.
High life cycle costs.
unhygienic
Health Hazards from zinc and formaldehyde.
Scope of SS in Edible oil segment:
Checkered flooring sheets.
storage tanker fittings.
customized SS products for tanker and equipment manufacturing units.

19
Factors affecting SS demand:
High costs.
BIS standards.
Government Investment of 11,000 crores in edible oil related industries.

20
SUGGESTIONS:
Strategies:
Promoting JSSL memberships with manufacturers buying from Jindal
dealers.
Converting potential customers to active customers.
Pan India awareness of new BIS standards with the help of Government
Officials.
Connecting with IVPA ( Indian Vegetable Oil Producers Association).
Media Marketing campaigns and Social media presence.
