B. DISCUSSION

SAFETY PRECAUTION
It is the first thing to do before an activity to avoid risk or injury during the activity, these
includes the protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other gear that is intended to protect the
body who wears or clothing from any injury that will caused by electrical hazard, heat,
chemicals, and infection, for job related occupational safety and health purposes.
During the laboratory, it must be strictly imposed that the teacher and students should
wear a personal protective equipment to prevent or lessen the impact in case of accident.
These include:

 Goggles – It have a lenses that provides visibility and wrap around frames or strap which
is use to protect the eyes from dust, excessive light, wind, and etc.

ANTI-STATIC AND SAFETY PRECAUTION

Have you ever walked on a carpeted floor and gotten a shocked when you touched
a doorknob, table counter, or even another person? That is a result of static
electricity. Static electricity is a discharge of electricity between two objects with
different electrical potential. Human cannot feel this static until it has a strong
several thousand volts. This static electricity can caused a damaged the sensitive
components of the computer like the RAM or the processor even in a less 30
volts. That is why computer technician and home computer builders have to guard
their computers against this deadly wrecking of static of electricity, as well take
steps to prevent from injury.

 Safety and Anti-static Rules

 Always use an anti-static wrist strap when working on a computer,
except when working on monitors.
 Always grasp on metal part of the computer chassis with your bare
hands before you touch anything inside. Do this even you wear
your anti-static wrist strap.
 Always disconnect the computer from the AC power of any from
any powered peripheral when working on it.
 Always handle any electronic component by a non-conduction
(non-metallic) edge. Don’t touch the pins or other connector.
 Never plug an ATX power into AC power unless it is connected
either to a computer’s motherboard or to a dummy test load. You
will burn out the power supply if there is no load.
 Always use a UL-approve surge protector or an uninterruptible
power supply that incorporates surge and spike protections.
 Never eat, drink, or smoke while working on a computer.

SYSTEM SPECIFICATION
If you buy a software or hardware for your computer, you must consider the system
requirements that supports that computer. In order to use the hardware and software, your
computer must meet the needed requirements. For example, your computer must have a
Windows 7 or newer, 4 GB RAM, 2.8 GHz processor, 256 graphics card, or a 15 GB Hard
Drive space so that you run a DOTA 2. If your computer does not meet all of these requirements,
DOTA 2 cannot be run at all.

It is important to check the system requirements of hardware devices. For example, if you
buy a printer, it may support a Windows or MAC OS and a USB connector or at least an 80 MB
space of hard drive. If your computer does not have a USB port, you can never physically
connect the printer to your computer and your computer must also have a Windows or MAC OS
in order to be compatible with your operating system. Otherwise, your computer cannot
recognize your printer.
Most hardware and software products have the specification written on the side or bottom of
the product packaging. When you shop for computer software and hardware, make it a habit to
read the written specifications and write down on a piece of paper. The important information
includes:
1. Operating system (example, Windows XP or MAC OS).
2. Processor Speed (Dual core at 2.8 GHz).
3. Memory or RAM (4 GB).
4. Graphic Card (nVidia GeForce 8600/9600GT w/ 256 video memory).
5. Hard Disk space (example, 15 GB available).
6. I/O ports (example, Firewire, Serial, Parallel, VGA, DVI ports)

By recording these computer specifications, you will be able to make sure that you are
buying product that your computer can support. In terms of installation, a system requirement is
a big consideration so that your computer works efficiently.
All in all, the performance of your computer depends on the following factors: the speed and
architecture of its processor or the CPU, the capacity of the memory or RAM, and the storage
capacity of the internal hard drives. It is also important for the user to know the specification on
the speed of the internet connection. You must also consider the appropriate back up storage for
your files.

PROCESSOR SPEED AND ARCHITECTURE

The speed of the computer’s processor chip also known as “clock speed” is measured in
gigahertz (GHz), with the fastest modern processors running at up to 4.7 GHz. For computing
task, browsing the internet, sending E-mails, word processing, spreadsheet’s work are only
require at least 1GHz or more.
The architecture of a processor is the most important factor to determine its
performance, and refers to its basic design and complexity. Some processors are simply more
sophisticated than others, like for example, the Intel producing basic processors called Celerons
and Pentiums, as well as more powerful processors under its “Core” family. The later include the
Core 2, Core i3, Corei5, and the most powerful Core i7.
Front side bus (FSB) speed is a measure of how fast a microprocessor communicates
with the computers main circuit board (motherboard) into which it is physically connected.
Again, the higher the measure the better for overall performance, with FSB speeds currently
ranging from 533MHz (still perfectly sufficient for the vast majority of applications) up to 1600
MHz.

RAM
It is measured in megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB), as detailed on the storage page.

much RAM computer needs depends of the its software requirements in order run
effectively. A computer running Windows XP can function with 1gb RAM, compared to
Windows 7 that needs at least 2GB RAM.
GRAPHIC SYSTEM
Computer’s graphics system determines how well it can work with visual output.
They are now quite powerful, and sufficient for handling the requirements of most
software applications aside from games playing, 3D modeling, and some forms of video
editing. A modern graphics cards can now display a high-resolution color images on a
standard-sized display screen. The more sophisticated graphics card can now determine
how the computer can handle the playback of high definition video, as well as the speed
and quality at which 3D scenes can be rendered.
Adding a new graphics card to a computer with onboard graphics is also a very
easy upgrade if required in the future.
HARD DRIVE SPEED and CAPACITY
Today, a minimum space for the hard drive so that a Windows 7 can run or more
larger storage capacity if there is more to be installed on the computer. If your computer
is for is for regular video editing, it is recommended to install second internal hard disk
but if it is for professional video editing program like the Premier Pro CS5, Adobe
recommended to have at least three (3) internal hard disk. One is for the operating system
and programs, and other one is for video file project and lastly, for video media.
There are two key factor in determining the speed of the traditional spinning hard
disk;the first is the rotational velocity of the physical disk itself that has a 4200, 5400,
7200, 1000 or1500 rpm (revolutions per minute). The faster the disk spins, the quicker
the data can be read from or written to it. The faster the better even it can consume more
power , make more noise, and generate more heat.
The second key factor in determining the performance of the traditional internal
harddisk is the interface that is used to connect to the motherboard, these includes; Serial
Advance Technology Attachment (SATA), which is most modern and used by ne PC’s;
Integrated Device Electronics (IDE), also known as UDMA which is slower and older
version of interface, and lastly, the SCI, which happens to be the oldest in its most
modern variant, still the fastest disk interface standard
