We use “at” to say where something happens- for example, with places where we meet or

points on a journey:
I´ll see you at the cinema this evening.
He was waiting at the bus stop.
We also use “at” with words for things that people do, or the places where they do them:
at a football match at breakfast, lunch etc. at a restaurant
at work/ the office at the cinema/theatre at a restaurant
at the station/airport at a party/ a concert at school/university
We also use “at” with the top, the bottom, the side, the beginning and the end.
Sometimes “in” and “at” are both possible, but we prefer “at” when we are thinking about the
activity (what we do in the place)- and “in” when we think about the place itself.

We use “in” with 3-dimensional spaces like boxes, rooms, towns or countries.
“Where´s Sue?” “In the kitchen” There´s nothing in the fridge.
Ana is in Germany. They are in the kitchen.
People are in clothes.
Who is the man in the black suit?
We say in a book, in the newspaper, in a story, in a street.
I found the job in the newspaper. There are no cafés in this street.
We use say in a car/ taxi.
I arrived in a car because I had missed the bus.

We use “in” with 2-dimensional surfaces like floors, tables, walls or ceilings.
Why are these papers on the floor? She had posters on the wall.
Clothes and jewellery are on people.
That coat looks good on you. She had a ring on every finger.
We say on a page.
Her photo is on page 4.
We say on a bus/train/plane/ship I´m leaving on the 3:30 train.
