People conduct research to resolve the problems, even whether they are tentative, in order
to improve or enhance methods of doing things, to refute or provide hypothesis, theories,
assumptions or to simply find answers to questions or solutions to problems in everyday
life. Research findings can affect people's lives, ways of doing things, laws, rules and
regulations, as well as policies among others. Widely, quantitative research is often used
because of its emphasis on proof rather than discovery. In natural social sciences,
quantitative research is the systematic, empirical investigation of observable phenomena
via statistical and mathematical techniques. Quantitative research aims to gain a better
understanding of the social world through data collection. Quantitative research provides
verifiable facts that can be effectively expressed through statistics and
numbers. Researchers use quantitative approaches to study situations or issues that affect
individuals. We do it in a systematic, scientific manner so that the findings can be
duplicated by others. It can help us students in many ways and factors.

5 EXAMPLES OF FIELDS:

1. QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH AND ANTHROPOLOGY

- Many discoveries in this field like human behaviour in the society, racial conflicts and
human evolution have given enormous contributions to the improvement of human life.

2. IN THE FIELD OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS

 - Students may conduct research to obtain various health intervention, patterns of care,
and costs of health care and use. For engineer, architects, and other builders, results of
quantitative research can help develop new structural designs.

3. IN THE FIELD OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

- Quantitative research may provide solutions to the social problems directly felt by the
people. Social science researches help us understand the social interactions that may
lead to the formulation of a new theory and practices that contribute to societal
development and welfare.

4. QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH AND BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCES

- Quantitative research in behavioural sciences tend to explore questions of differences
or questions of relationships to uncover patterns of behaviour. When a researchers
discover that a certain relationship exists in sample that he or she has drawn from
population, he or she is then in a position to draw generalizations.

5. QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH AND PSYCHOLOGY

- Assumption: the social world can be studied in the same way as the natural world.
Method for studying the social world that is value-free and that explanations of a casual
nature can be provided.
