The best festival

The Montreal Jazz Festival is the biggest jazz festival in the world. The best musicians come to this Canadian city to play music.

When and where

The festival takes place in Montreal, in the summer, for 11 days. Music plays from morning to night. You can hear music everywhere.
Musicians play outside, in small clubs and on enormous stages. Every year, 3000 musicians come from more than 30 countries. They come
from all over the world. About 100,000 to 200,000 people go to the biggest concerts. Normally, there are 650 concerts during one festival.
There are 450 free concerts out in the open air.

History and music legends

The first Montreal Jazz Festival was in 1980, when 1200 people came to hear the music and enjoy the party. In the '80s and '90s, great artists -
like Keith Jarrett, Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles - appeared at the festival. Today, the festival attracts thousands of visitors a year.

One big party

During the festival, the streets of central Montreal are closed. Cars can't go into the centre of the city. The city is full of visitors. It is like one big
party.
