Abstract

The current report evaluates the qualities of women entrepreneur Preetha


Reddy the Managing Director of Apollo hospitals, the report majorly
concentrated on the entrepreneur qualities and how they will become
entrepreneurs, characteristics of entrepreneurs, how they optimise the
resources and the motivational factors will be analyse from past literature. There
after the women entrepreneur Preetha Reddy’s success factors, what made her
an entrepreneur will be clearly assessed so that it will be easy to understand the
qualities of an entrepreneur to the report reader.

Preetha Reddy

The lady entrepreneur Preetha Reddy well known as “the queen of health” care
as she do maintain 400 pharmacies, 51 clinics and 45 hospitals. The prestigious
Business Today Magazine from India has recognised her as a women in top 25
powerful entrepreneurs. Preetha Reddy is the eldest daughter of Pratap Reddy
who has founded the Apollo Group of chain hospitals, which has a well
recognition in Asia for its high quality of service, it has proved and sustained
number one in Indian hospitals. In the year 1989 Preetha Reddy has taken
charge of Apollo hospitals as a joint managing director. She has proved her
excellence by making the Apollo hospitals group as a number one service
provider for health care projects. The Indian entrepreneur Preetha Reddy is a
graduate in chemistry awarded from Madras University, she has completed her
post graduation study in public administration from Annamalai University. The
52 years old Preetha Reddy is responsible for the smooth operations of the
group, she has developed a team of highly skilled employees to monitor the day
to day progress of the group, her plan, design and optimal usage of resources,
funds moving the company in positive direction as she has made her mark
enabling policy guideline to manage the group efficiently. Her special interest
goes on the college of hospital administration and the college of physiotherapy.
She acts as an advisor for Apollo Tele Medicine Network Foundation.

She has played a significant role in DKV insurance and family health plan, the
third party administration, medical insurance and medical business process
outsourcing. Preetha Reddy guides many divisions of hospitals such as planning
of infrastructure, designing and layout concepts. Preetha Reddy is one of the
initiator of SACH (Say A Childs Heart), which has helped over 2000 children to
survive from various needs for hospital of a child, the SACH has diagnosed over a
10,000 children at Africa and India, which shows her commitment towards the
corporate social responsibility. She has innovated variety of concepts, which
ensured the Apollo hospitals service quality to great Apollo hospitals as grade-A
hospitals for its excellence in service and business.

Characteristics

When Preetha Reddy was asked to help in the operations of the business she was
just a normal housewife. As her father himself owns a hospital she could be a
doctor if she would like to but her husband and father believe that she is not
suitable to the doctor career, when she was asked to join in the business
operations Preetha Reddy has brushed herself with people management roughly
about two decades ago. The youngest daughter of Prathap Reddy used to handle
the business operations where as she got married and left to Hyderabad, Preetha
Reddy asked to help out in the business operations. Her first achievement was
the employee management and first assignment was on staff strike. Preetha
Reddy has raised a slogan and solved the employee strike issue and she says that
“I was quite naïve—I felt that they must be hungry anyway and asked the
canteen to serve them food much against the administration’s wishes. Bellies full,
the employees somehow forgot their anger and went back to work”. Ever since
her slogan and implementation on the staff strike the Apollo group has never
faced protest later that situation and the cooperation of the staff has leaded to
improve the business to 45 hospitals.

Preetha Reddy has started a single-handed project without hypes and buzz. It
was the Apollo paediatric hospital in Chennai. The launch of the concept
reflected its results in four days, the four days experience given challenging tasks
to manage the complex surgeries. Preetha Reddy may not have degree in
management studies she has kept herself to the paces personally; she has risen
to the top through her work implementation become the successor of Pratap
Reddy her father. He says, “For the benefit of investors, I have to declare a
successor. Preetha’s core competence lies with the hospital vertical, which she
will continue to head; while as my first daughter, she’ll take the group forward”.
Preetha Reddy core competencies involved systems placements, enabling global
accreditation while designing the patient care guideline, which is necessarily
followed by the doctors. She is always a no contradictor who believes in god says,
“I have seen so many miracles at the hospital and my faith in god is reaffirmed
each time”. She does participate in cultural activities giving a big hand to the
cultural dances. She is known for “cant say no”, which proves her statement “I
don’t understand why people fret about time management— I just take things as
they flow; but manage to balance what I don’t like with what I like. That way I
don’t get stressed’’.

The above all proves that Preetha Reddy is homely character having pure
entrepreneurship qualities, which proves her capability to optimize the
resources and improve the business operations considering the corporate social
responsibility as a big hand.

Motivation

Preetha Reddy motivates from the leadership lessons, she believes that a
corporate leader should watch behind the practices of businesses to finite
universe. Every entrepreneur faces challenges in the administration just like the
administration of a nation where multiple challenges to be faced by the political
leaders where as an entrepreneur should provide solutions to his entire
business. Even she relates the business growth with the country’s economic
growth, as she will be motivated very much from the prime minister of
Monmohan Singh India. The step of trade liberalization taken by Manmohan
Singh admires her and her father Mr. Pratap Reddy’s cooperation motivated her
for compassionate humanities. She has developed her visions from her father’s
visionary and Karma Yogi believes.

Opportunities

Preetha Reddy has identified many business opportunities to grew her father’s
business, she has introduced TLC (Tender Loving Care) concept, which is a
service with integration in delivery of the services it has resulted a great
outcome in the experience of patients. Later the chin of hospitals across the
country followed such TLC integration in their services. She was the dynamic
person played a leadership role to gain the certificate from international
standards organization, ISO 14001 & 9001. She has developed a JCI process of
accreditation in Apollo group. With the continuous improvement of the service
quality enabled the hospital gained international recognition fetch more faith in
the services ultimately grown the business with a rapid growth.

Conclusion

The above all analyses and evaluation of information available on Preetha Reddy
gives the reader information that she has entrepreneurial qualities internally,
which she was realised and implemented once she stepped in to the business.
However her father is a successful businessman it might be a possibility to
observe his entrepreneurial qualities for a long period of time but she was not a
management student and a house wife for a significant long period of time not
really effected on her entrepreneurial qualities. One can say that she is a born
entrepreneur. Preetha Reddy is one of the best examples of women
entrepreneur.
