Lesson Plan

March 22 , 2021

Term 2.

Subject : Mathematics

Unit : Satisfying Our Needs

Duration: 60 minutes x 2

Strand : Geometry

Standard 3: Students will apply geometric concepts (points,

paths, lines, shapes to reason about objects and
space in the environment.
Benchmark: Benchmark 2.3.1 Explore ideas of points, paths,
lines, and shapes and relate these to objects in
the environment.

Focus Question:Why do I need Education and How am I

Educated?

Attainment
Target: 7 Explore paths and/or shapes in the environment
and relate basic mathematical shapes to
everyday life.

Objectives: At the end of this lesson, pupils will be asked to:

identify a path as a set of two end points.
identify closed path bounded by straight lines.
identify circle, square and triangle as simple
closed path.
Identify circles, squares, rectangles in the
environment.
Concepts 2D shapes, shapes, triangles, circles, rectangles,
properties, number, plane shapes

Content In geometry, a two-dimensional shape can be

defined as a flat plane figure or a shape that has
two dimensions – length and width. Two-
dimensional or 2-./.D shapes do not have any
thickness and can be measured in only two faces.
A path is a set of points with two end points.

Skills drawing, identifying, naming, colouring,

counting, solving

Teacher/Pupils Activities
Activities Engage – Math song
Shapes, shapes everywhere. Shapes, shapes
everywhere. On the floor, on the door, on the
windows too.( Rept2) Everywhere you will find
shapes.
Look !! Shapes on the fridge. Look !!! Shapes on
the TV. Everywhere you will find shapes,
everywhere you will find shapes.
Explain Children will be asked to look around the
house and observe the shapes of each object,
then identify the object and tell the shapes they
see.
They will describe if the shape is curved or
round or straight. Did the shapes crossed?
Was it on open shape or a closed shape?
Describe your shape.

They will be asked to identify closed path

bounded by straight lines

Pupils will be asked to identify circle, square

and triangle as simple closed path.

Explore Pupils will be asked to turn to their Primary

mathematics Book 2 page 118. Then
Colour the shapes on the clown, count the
shapes then fill in the table: How many
shapes?
Match each shape to its name.
Colour the shape in the right column that is
the same shape and size as the coloured
shape. Page 119.
Put an X inside each circle below
Colour each square blue
Colour each triangle yellow
Put a tick inside each rectangle
How many of each shape did you find?
Record your result in the table below Page
