Introduction
Must be written in paragraphs. It consist of
 Name and size of the area
 Brief History of the study area
 Definitions and general statement of the problem to be investigated
 Reason or reasons why the researcher decided to investigate this problem in this area
 Location must be places on the map of the country and/ or the map of the community showing
the study area. The map must have:
 Compass direction
 Scale
 Key (if necessary)
 Title

TASKS

1. Statement of Problem
Must be written in the form of a question from the topic and the title
e.g.; Topic: Child Abuse
Title: The causes and consequences for the level of physical abuse of children in the
Kitty community.

Statement of Problem: What are the causes and consequences for the level of physical
abuse of children in the Kitty community?

Students must use interrogative words such as is, are, to what extent, what, how, why, …..

2. Reason for Selecting the Area of Research


The reason why the area was chosen to conduct the research

3. Method of Investigation
State the data collection method such as the questionnaire, interview or observation and briefly state
two or three advantages of the method(s) chosen.
e.g. It is reliable
It is less time consuming
The questionnaire is confidential

4. Data Collection Instrument

The Questionnaire

Questions must be sequenced logically – bio-data, Introduction questions, causes, effect and solutions
Bio data questions: Sex
Age range
Ethnicity
Occupation
Years of Residency/Occupancy

• Questionnaire must consist of closed ended and open ended questions. less open ended
questions (essay type question)
• Questions must answer the statement of problem/research questions
• Total 15-20 questions

YOUR LAST QUESTION SHOULD BE BASED ON RECOMMENDATIONS OR IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

5. Procedures for Data Collection


 Briefly explain how persons were selected for the survey (e.g. randomly or deliberate
selection)
 State the number of questionnaires distributed and collected
 State the dates of distribution and collection of questionnaires
 State the reasons why questionnaires were not collected (if necessary)

6. Presentation of Data

Three important questions Must be presented in any three ways listed below:

 Statistical table
 Pictogram or Pictorial graphs
 Line graphs
 Bar graphs
 Pie chart or Divided circles
 Histogram
 Cone chart
 Maps
 Photographs

NOTE- Each must be properly labelled and accurately calculated

7. Analysis and Interpretation of Data


 Describe or analyse the data that were presented in the questions of the
questionnaire
 Explain fully each graph or table presented in Task 6
 State the number or percentages of respondents on each graph or table presented
by making reference to it
 This should be written in past tense
 No table should be referred to as Figure 1 or 2 but as Table 1 and 2

8. Statement of Findings
Three findings in the form of sentences, use facts and numbers or percentages which
answer your Statement of Problem

9. Recommendations and Implementation of Strategy


 State Two recommendations to the Statement of Findings
 State how you would implement (carry out) any one recommendation

Glossary

A list of definitions of words/terms used in the SBA. It must be arranged alphabetically

Bibliography

State the sources where information was obtained. Ensure the correct format is used
e.g

Rampersaud, R & Umraw, R; (2005) Modules in Social Studies-4th Edition, Caribbean Educational
Publishers, La Romaine, Trinidad.

Appendices –ONE fully answered questionnaire, newspaper clipping, tally sheet

NOTE:

• The activities for the SBA are linked to any topic found in the syllabus and accounts for 20 %
of the examination (40 marks)

• Ensure each Page is correctly numbered and matches with table of contents
