LESSON 2: Marketing Preserved Food
Products

Most people when they hear the word “marketing” it is embedded on

their minds that it is more to “advertising”. Perhaps it is not all about
promoting your product but rather considering all means to get the attention
of your customers. You have to know the factors that could help in meeting
the standards or taste of your target market because satisfied customers
often like to persuade other people to try what they have experienced.
Remember our previous lesson in packaging your products? It was
emphasized how your packaging greatly affects the marketability and
salability of your preserved or processed products. In this lesson you will
know the different strategies that could help your product make a connection
with your customers aside from the good packaging.
So are you ready? Keep going!

Lesson Proper/Information:

Marketing is more than just advertising your product to your potential

customers. It is everything you do for your product to be accepted or be
recognized. To be successful you need to create strategies to where you want
to sell it your products and how will you promote it. Try to ask yourself first, is
my product / packaging significantly different from those currently in the
market? Do I need to create a new twist? What make mine different from or
better than the other product out there? Let’s put in mind that:

MARKETING is bringing the products to the costumer’s knowledge and

attention, getting a slice in the market of similar products and successfully selling
the products to the costumer’s satisfaction and pleasure. It requires a thorough
study on how a product should to be successfully marketed to bring profits or gains.
Let’s dig more!

Doing various marketing strategies is the best way to sell your preserved
food products. The following are marketing strategies usually done for selling
preserved food products:

Print Media.

This refers to the advertisements of preserved food

products on newspapers, magazines, brochures
and flyers.

https://trip101.com/article/night-markets-in-manila

Product Display.

This is promoting preserved food products in

exhibits and bazaars.

https://www.pngwing.com/en/free-png-ncjfn

Internet Marketing.

This refers to promoting preserved food products

on the internet through blogs, emails and social
networking sites.
Same with selling household linens, selling preserved food products also
increases the family’s income. To learn how to get the cost of your preserved food
products, below is the formula and example in getting the selling price using the
cost-plus pricing method.

Cost-Plus Pricing Method Formula

(Total Cost of Materials + Profit = Total Selling Price)

Example:

Product Name: Salted eggs

Materials:

20 pcs. Itik eggs Php 160.00

1 kilo salt Php 20.00

__________

Total Cost Php 180.00

Add: profit (15%) Php 27.00

Total Selling Price Php 207.00 / 10.35 per egg

Daily transactions such as purchases made and expenses incurred in the

production of preserved food should always be recorded and kept organized. A
notebook or simple organizer can serve as daily record for all expenses, sales, and
profits gained from selling your preserved food products. Below is a sample of daily
record of purchased materials and sales.

Date Items Quantity Unit Cost Total Cost

July 2, 2019 Itik eggs 20 pcs Php 8.00 Php 160.00
