READING MONTH NARRATIVE

National Reading Month is a nationwide reading movement for the Filipino Children
and it serves as a platform to synergize efforts and resources to address education-related
challenges especially on literacy and numeracy.
As what Margaret Fuller said, “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader” a famous quote
that implies a great significant impact to all educators. For through reading, we can expose
our learners to new things, new information, and new ways to achieve one thing. Aside from
these, we can also build a more solid foundation for communication wherein it is the most
important tool we used to connect with each other.
To develop pupil’s love of reading and to make them proficient and independent
readers in their grade level, Dammang East Elementary School plans and implements the
different projects and programs to ensure that “Bawat Bata ay Bumabasa sa Kabila ng Hamon
ng Pandemya”.
The first project that we had is the PROJECT ACTIVATE READING AT HOME
wherein teachers prepared and distributed Contextualized Reading Materials to supplement
the different passages/ stories included in the SLMs/LAS they’ve received.
Aside from this, advisers and school reading coordinators encouraged parents to
identify specific area in their home that serves as a home reading corner of their children
wherein teachers monitored and evaluated the home reading corners of their learners through
an online platform.
Teachers are also conducting online reading sessions to assess the reading skills of
learners and to intensify reading instructions and interventions to struggling readers and non-
readers.
To make every learner a reader, PROJECT Passionate Action to Nurture Teaching
Reading to Yield improved academic performance (PANTRY) was launched last October
12, 2021. This project aims to help the young learners to get to know sounds, words and
language, develop early literacy skills, learn to value books and stories, spark child’s
imagination and stimulate curiosity.
The School Reading Coordinators also requested the help and support of the Barangay
Officials/ Knowledge bearers to achieve the objectives of Project Intam Paddurufunan Yu
Pammakapyan danu anak tam Angiyada tu module Dansaw man sira magyan, gubin
omma makaywan, Agintam sira indon ketu edukasyon ay maddulot (IYADA).

Bearers distributed additional reading materials especially to those learners who are
located in far flung areas.
We also communicated and engaged the SK officials and other stakeholders in
promoting the culture of Reading thru PROJECT Guidance and Assistance in Building
Academic-focused Youths (GABAY). In this project, SK officials serve as reading
volunteers who provide assistance to struggling readers and non-readers.
With these projects and programs that we had in our school, we believe that we can
produce productive and responsible citizens equipped with essential competencies and
reading skills for lifelong learning.
