Different Types of Economic Activities of Chattogram:

Firstly, if we want to look at the economic activities of Chattogram based on natural factors, we
will see that the area is connected with both rivers and the ocean. That is why there is a huge
number of people who have a direct connection with fishing activities as economic activity.
About 25,675 fishermen are currently active in the district. Among them, about 3,000 are from
the metropolis.

Secondly, there are also man-induced and non-induced parameters affecting different economic
activities of Chattogram. For example, the restaurants serving special Mezbani food or Kalovuna
are both examples of secondary economic activity. As here the meat is being turned into
culturally influenced food, which has a huge demand due to the socio-economic condition of the
area. Then the restaurant serving that food is an example of tertiary economic activity. But here
both of these men induced economic activities have been influenced by non-induced parameters
of economic activities like socioeconomic factors and demography.

Not only these restaurants, but many garment factories are also being influenced by man-induced
and non-induced parameters. For example, the cheap labor available in Chattogram is the
demography that allowed the establishment of the 700 garment factories currently available
there. This demography is directly connected with secondary and tertiary economic activities, as
they produce exportable cloths from raw materials and their garment factories ensure the
transportation of these products to foreign countries.

Different Types of Economic Activities of Rajshahi

In the case of Rajshahi, though it is an important city and has a geographic position just on the
Padma riverbank, expected industrial development has not taken place. Most economic activities
in Rajshahi are connected with natural factors and tertiary economic factors.

The majority of economic activities are based on agriculture and crop production. The natural
climate of Rajshahi along with the temperature, precipitation rate and quality of soil is perfect for
the production of fruits like mango, lichi, sugarcane, watermelon and tomato. Furthermore,
agricultural products such as rice, potato, wheat and lentils are also produced at a high rate due to
the natural geography. Due to this reason, a huge number of people are directly dependent on
natural economic activities as they work the whole year to produce the crops.

Examples of people connected with secondary economic activities can be seen as many people
are connected with economic activities based on rice mills, sugar mills and jute mills where their
agricultural products are being processed as raw materials and being turned into different
finished products. Finally, many tertiary economic activities like transportation of these crops-
products to the whole country or export of mangoes to European countries like Germany, France,
Italy and Switzerland are another example of economic activities of people of Rajshahi.
