Work on The Rate of

Evaporation of
Different Liquids.
-NITIN MARAN . M
SUMMARY-

Different liquids have different characteristics.

Some liquids are conductors of electricity,
some are insulators, some can be converted
into solidsand some into gaseous form.

The process in which liquids change their state

into the state of gas is said to be evaporation.

In this project/research, we have found the rate

of evaporation of different liquids such as
Ethanol, Acetaldehyde, Acetone and Water.
INTRODUCTION-

The rate of evaporation of liquids varies

directly with temperature.

With the increase in the temperature, fraction

of molecules having sufficient kinetic energy
to escape out from the surface also increases.

Thus with the increase in temperature rate of

evaporation also increases.
THE OBJECTIVE-

The objective of this research/project is to

determine the rate of evaporation of different
liquids by various means.
The reference of books, e-books and websites
are involved in order to analyse the data.
The results of these events will be compared
and placed according to their rate of
evaporation.
Our objective is to find the rate of evaporation
of the following liquids;
1.Ethanol,
2.Acetaldehyde,
3.Acetone and
4. Water.
THEORITICAL BACKGROUND-

A liquid’s surface area and temperature affect

it’s rate of evaporation.
Evaporation also depends on the types of
liquids because different liquids are made up
of different molecules and have different
structures.

The factors therefore are;

1. Temperature
2. Relative Humidity
3. Intermolecular Forces
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY-

The reference of books, e-books and websites

are involved in order to analyse the data.
The liquids taken for research will undergo
tests that will sincerely prove the rate of
evaporation.
The procedures for this test will be stated step
by step.

The accurate results will be taken into

consideration and the results will be compared
to specific research based websites.
THE PROCEDURE-

 Take four beakers of equal volumes and

mark the as A,B,C,D. Pour 10ml of each
liquid in these beakers.

 Find their respective masses using

DENSITY = MASS/VOLUME

 Keep the beakers at similar conditions for

30 minutes after recording their masses.

 After half an hour note the masses of the

beakers and calculate the loss in mass of
them.
