Assessing Teachers’ Perspective Towards Their School Heads: Basis for Building Harmony in the

Workplace

RATIONALE

Perspective is define as a particular way of considering something

(www.dictionary.cambridge.com) can affect the atmosphere of the workplace.

The growth in the importance of school leadership has been accompanied by theory

development, with new models emerging and established approaches being redefined and

further developed (Bush & Glover, 2014).

School‐level conditions and school leadership, in particular, are key issues in efforts to

change instruction. While new organizational structures and new leadership roles matter to

instructional innovation, what seems most critical is how leadership practice is undertaken. Yet,

the practice of school leadership has received limited attention in the research literature

(Spillane, et al., 2007).

With this, the researcher would like to grasp the relationship of the teachers to their

superiors.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The study will seek to answer the following:

1. What are the perspectives of the teachers towards their school heads in East Maasim

district?

2. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

a. Age

b. Gender

c. Designation in school?

3. What program can be created?

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Bakotić (2016) study show the existence of a clear link between

employees’ job satisfaction and organisational performance in both directions, but with pretty

weak intensity. Detailed analysis showed that the connection between job satisfaction and

organisational performance is stronger than the connection between organisational performance

and job satisfaction. It could be stated that job satisfaction determines organisational

performance, rather than organisational performance determining job satisfaction.

She added that the case with the relationship between job satisfaction and organisational

performance is more complex. Organisational performance is influenced by various factors, both

internal which the company can influence, and external, which are beyond the company’s

influence. Attitudes in general and especially job satisfaction really affect organisational

behaviour in a number of cases, but not always.

Harris (2010) mentioned in her article that there is a great deal of contemporary interest

in schools in challenging circumstances. However, there are relatively few research studies that

have focused exclusively upon effective leadership practices in such schools. The article

highlights the key characteristics and features of the leadership approaches adopted, and argues

that the heads in the study operated a shared or distributed model of leadership. The empirical

evidence from teachers, senior managers, pupils and headteachers point towards a model of

leadership that is fundamentally concerned with building positive relationships and empowering

others to lead. The article concludes by suggesting that a fundamental re-conceptualisation of

leadership is required that equates leadership with the many rather than the few and recognises

the fundamental relationship between teacher leadership and school improvement.

School level analyses showed that transformational leadership had significant add‐on

effects to transactional leadership in the prediction of organizational commitment, organizational

citizenship behavior, and teacher satisfaction. Moreover, transformational leadership was found
to have indirect effects on student academic achievement. Finally, it was found that transactional

leadership had little add‐on effect on transformational leadership in predicting outcomes (Koh,

et al., 1997).

Objectives

The study aims to gather the views of the teachers towards their superior and create a

program that would address harmony in the workplace.

Scope and Delimitation

The study is delimited to perspective of the Integrated schools teachers towards their

school heads in the East Maasim district in the school year 2018 – 2019.

Research Design

This study will utilize a qualitative-quantitative approach research. A validated

questionnaire will be utilized to answer the profile and views of the teachers as well as the one –

on – one interview on the respondents.

The mean (Rumsey, 2016), also referred to by statisticians as the average, is the most

common statistic used to measure the center of a numerical set.

Qualitative data, such as the experiences of the teachers, we applied the phenomenology.

It is concerned with the study of human perception of events or phenomena from the actual

happenings in the world (Speziale and Carpenter, 2007).

Respondents and Sampling Techniques

The respondents of this study will be chosen through purposive sampling by the

researcher. This includes the Elementary, Junior and Senior High School Teachers among the
Integrated schools of East Maasim district, Maasim, Sarangani Province for the school year

2018 – 2019.

Locale

This study will be conducted at Mangelen Integrated School, Rogaya Bajunaid

Integrated School and Datu Abdulbali Integrated School, Maasim, Sarangani Province, Region

XII.

Statistical Tool

The validated questionnaire will be gathered and analyzed as well as the interviews.

Statistical Treatment

The data gathered from the validated questionnaire and the interview will be analyzed to

answer questions number 1 and 2.
