Date: 5/19
Group and K Class: Theodore & Hunter (KC)
Iowa Core Standard: RF.K.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis in decoding words.
Learning Target: I can complete all the word activities.

Procedures: (describe what you will do) Time Allotted: Oral Directions and Guidance Given to Students Materials/Supplies Needed

Introduction: 1 min Today we are going to do a few different activities. I

want you to try your best on all of them.

Learning Activity: 13 min Cut-up sentences Jamboard:

- Can you read me this sentence? Good the https://jamboard.google.com/d/1
sentence is: I play ball with my brother. I V4saQR6ZLVFKaFJX0vE87oX
want you to say the sentence one more time. XiwuH6LJLGj1OIxwGi5w/edit?
- For sentences with different punctuation: usp=sharing
Can you tell me what is at the end of this
sentence? Right, that is a question mark CVC word match:
because the sentence is asking a question https://docs.google.com/presentat
- .Awesome, I am now going to scramble up ion/d/1FJGO0SGEl_2hCXdDLF-
the sentence and I want you to put it back 7CwaKhYqL4LI-
together. moyNIKnzhg0/edit?usp=sharing
Blending/segmenting
- We have 4 pictures on the screen here. We Nonsense wheel:
are going to look at each of them and figure https://wordwall.net/resource/120
out what they each are. 32209/english/nonsense-words
- Then, we are going to segment the words
below to find out what each of them is and
match them to the picture.
- I will do the first as an example.
- This is a picture of a dog. I see the
word below is spelled d-o-g. This
word dog matches this picture.
Digraphs
- We are going to look at some digraph words
again today, but first we are going to learn
some hand motions to help us remember
what sound each one makes.
- Sh: makes the /sh/ sound so we are
going to make the motion like we
are telling someone to be quiet.
- Ch: ch makes the /ch/ sound so we
are going to make a chopping
motion with aqre hand like you are
chopping a vegetable.
- Th: th makes the /th/ sound so we
are going to make the thumbs up
motion.
- We are going to now look at some pictures
and I want you to tell me what word it is a
picture of. Then, I want you to show me
with the motions we just learned which one
you hear in the word.

Nonsense words
- I am going to spin this wheel and a
nonsense word will pop up. Remember,
nonsense words are not real words, but I
want you to sound them out for me.

Conclusion: 1 min Your goal for today was to complete all the activities
I had for you, do you think you completed the goal?

Differentiation:
- I want to focus Hunter on the Digraph drill and CVC word sort. I know that hunter will need a refresher in each of the digraph sounds before we use
the visual phonics because he gets them confused. He also struggles with blending cvc, so I found the sort with the pictures to hopefully help him to
practice.
- I want to make sure theodore does the nonsense word drill today. I think it will help him practice his blending skills more because when we look at
CVC words, I notice often he just makes guesses based on the first letter. Using the nonsense words will force him to use hos blending skills.

Assessments: I am looking for Hunter and Theodore to be able to use the hand motions to identify the digraphs and be able to blend the CVC words to match
them with the picture.

Post-Lesson Reflective Evaluation:

- Hunter did really well to use the visual phonics to help him with the digraph sort. I think the CVC word sort was good because it helped him with the
blending, but the set up confused him with the words already being below other pictures.
- Theodore at first was confused with the nonsense words. He would sound them out and then guess a real word that was similar to it. Once I did some
as an example he realized they were not real words and did better to blend them.
