1. PM – Class
1.1 Prerequisites (If applicable)
Class should be changed.

1.2 Purpose & Understanding

Classification is a central functionality in SAP which can be leveraged by all SAP modules. In plant
maintenance classification is used to group Equipment specifications. Some of the specifications of
the Equipment are captured in Equipment master using classification.

Class and Characteristics masters will be used to structure the specifications and they are linked to
Equipment. External numbers are to be used for class and characteristics.

A set of characteristics are assigned to the class. As an example, Specifications for Lifts, A/Cs and
vehicles are grouped to form a class for that type of Equipment.

The class type used for Equipment classification is 002.
