LET’S APPLY:
1. Why was the focus of education different for different groups of people in different places and at
different periods in world history? What does this point to regarding relationships of schools and
society?

 The reason for this is because when you live in a particular area, you're taught about the
history, and what made that place what it is today.
 For example, here in the Philippines, you learn Filipino cultures because Philippine has a
different history from other places. Another example, if you lived in China, you're going to
learn history that occurred in China because it has different cultures, and a different
background from other places.

2. What does job-skills mismatch imply about the relevance of schools to present society? Are schools
effective agents of socialization preparing Filipino graduates for their job roles?
 The job-skill mismatch is agencies only employ those skill-ready applicant and most of the
Filipino is not skilled enough to do the job because of lack of education. Yes, the school
effectively preapering Filipino graduates for their job roles. Because before they gradutes
they must under go tranings and other activity regarding to ther courses.

 Schools shape children’s perceptions of the world, the values, beliefs, and norms of society
are internalized within children so that they come to think and act like other members of
the society. • Schools helps in building a nation. •
2. What is meant by socialization as a function of schools?
 The role of socialization is to acquaint individuals with the norms of a given social group or
society. It prepares individuals to participate in a group by illustrating the expectations of
that group.
3. In the Philippines, was education a privileged enjoyed by all Filipinos since the pre-colonial period?
Why or why not?
 No, because in pre-colonial times we don't have education and our ancestors are mostly
focused on finding ways to hunt, live and find food. Colonizers are the ones that introduced
us the education system

1. Should college education be for all? Or should it be given only to those who are intellectually
capable of college education? Those who are not should be directed to technical education. Isn’t
giving access to college education for one who is not intellectually capable a waste of time and
resources?
 Education must be for all. For everyone have the right to learn different information to be
use for living. Especially that the agencies today only employ those skilled workers. That’s
why every Filipino must go to school and finished their studies for ther future.

 Primitive living cannot be called a skill in itself, but instead it must be understood that at no

clan to survive. The skills necessary to meet the needs of a person are best performed by a
people.
 The basic needs of wilderness living, are shelter, fire, water, and food, and self
expression, in that order. These needs are guided by 2 basic principles. Those of Connection
and awareness. These last 2 items are the keystone, they are the parts that hold the whole
thing together. Without a keen sense of awareness, awareness of your self, your situation,
and your surroundings, and without a strong sense of connection to nature, to yourself,and
to your community, you have no chance.

1. Cite how schools at present are working on the realization of these 4 purposes as cited by the
functionalist.
 According to functionalists, the socialization process is coercive, forcing us to accept the
values and norms of society. The values and norms of society are agreed upon by all
members of society because there is a “social contract” in effect which protects us from one
another and keeps society stable and balanced.
2. Adherents to the conflict theory claim that schools teach loyalty so that those in power remain in
power and those below will forever be at the bottom. Do you agree? Why or why not?
 I strongly disagree in this theory, for everyone has its own inteligents, and sometimes the
worker is more knowledgeble than their boss. They perform better than their manager
that’s why everyone must have the right to prove their self. For the betterment of our
country.

 For my observation one school practice base on funtionalist theory is the brigada eskwela
because the parents, school employes,volunteers, brgy. Official and even some of the
students is helping one another to clean and beautyfy the school and the soroundings, this
shows the support of the community to the school.
 I think the one school practice base on conflict teory is only apply to thoose janitors and the
teachers, for the teacher will be a teacher because this is their profassion and same also in
janitors. In this they apply the those in power remain in power and those in below forever in
the bottom.
 The school practice base on symbolic theory is teachers' expectations may influence how
much their students learn. ... But when teachers think students are less bright, they tend to
spend less time with these students and to act in a way that leads them to learn less.

1. Teacher observes that when students submit report, the more ornate and artistic the folder is, the
less substantial the report. Which weakness in the Filipino character is pointed to? If you were the
teacher how do you counteract such?
 This is the Emphasis on porma rather than subtance,and if I were the teacher I will
appriciate their works then explain to them that beautyfication is good but the subtance is
important because this is were they can get a higher points,

 The weaknesses of Filipinos that DepEd is trying to eliminate are the extreme personalism
and lack of self-analysis and self-reflection. Through integrating values development among
the subject areas of students, the students will prevent in having a egocentric view of the
world wherein through the values imparted by the teachers, they’ll able to look on
themselves objectively and capable to orient themselves and have a great empathy toward
other people.

 For me the weakness that I have is the lack of discipline, when I stop studying I do some
stupid things that even against the rule or law. And yes when I continue my study I slowly
fallowing the rule and disipline to do some task inorder for me not to fail.

 The school must have more branches specially in those far provinces and employed more
teacher to teach according so that they will teach the students well, and their must be a
school supply like books, computer if posible, so that the students will learn very well.

2. School and community patnership enhances sense of ownership and sense of belonging. What does
these mean? How will these impact on schools and communities?
 It means that shool and community is connected to each other and they need each other in
order to grow. The school need the support and cooperation of the community. And the
school will produce gradutes students that helps the community to grow or succeed.

 Yes, because most of the teachers tells us about how important growing up and knowing
our goals is. They teach us their experience as a parents to their child/s. They tell us what

 I think it is the facilitate access to a range of learning opportunities and developmental

their work. Suddenly it is whats happening today. The leaders done more on talking than
their jobs that’s the progress of our community is very slow, but inorder to change that bad
habbit as a professional teacher we must be honest lets talk according to our capability and
don’t lie just to impress people. Lets our action speak not our mounth for sometimes lies
just came out to our mouth but our action never lie.
3.As a community leader, what will you do if you see something negative in the community culture?
Give one example

 If I were became a community leader someday and I see something negative in the
community culture for example here in our municipality (hiblot) or cursing their enemy is
still exist. I will gather the official speacilly the elder to creat a law that prohibited it, for this
is not applicable today, we have a law to punised those law breaker citizen. And not in the
way the munfuni or shaman punish them

 1. A great teacher respects students. In a great teacher’s classroom, each person’s ideas and
opinions are valued. Students feel safe to express their feelings and learn to respect and
listen to others. This teacher creates a welcoming learning environment for all students.

 2. A great teacher creates a sense of community and belonging in the classroom. The mutual
respect in this teacher’s classroom provides a supportive, collaborative environment. In this
small community, there are rules to follow and jobs to be done and each student is aware
that he or she is an important, integral part of the group. A great teacher lets students know
that they can depend not only on her, but also on the entire class.

 3. A great teacher is warm, accessible, enthusiastic and caring. This person is approachable,
not only to students, but to everyone on campus. This is the teacher to whom students
know they can go with any problems or concerns or even to share a funny story. Great
teachers possess good listening skills and take time out of their way-too-busy schedules for
anyone who needs them. If this teacher is having a bad day, no one ever knows—the
teacher leaves personal baggage outside the school doors.

1. One instance that proves tht school community partnership has been established is the Brigada
Eskwela of the Department of Education. Research on what Brigada Eskwela is and the good things
it has brought to schools.
 Brigada Eskwela as a nationwide initiative gathers volunteers to help clean, donate and do
maintenance work for public elementary and secondary schools. Established in 2003, the
Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week, became one of the most
important programs of DepEd as the logical extension of the objectives stated in the
Republic Act 8525 or the Adopt-A-School Act of 1998. It aims to mobilize parents, alumni,
civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations, teachers, students, and
individuals to help out public schools in rebuilding the facilities in preparation for the
opening of classes There are a lot of benefits that come with Brigada Eskwela, it saves
resources on the part of the school, it builds oneness and cooperation to all stakeholders
where their camaraderie among them develops, the learnings of the students are ensured,
the cleanliness of the facilities becomes pleasing and inviting and the school becomes safe
and ready to serve Filipino learners. The Brigada Eskwela successfully helps in constructing
creative ways of improving the school facilities while highlighting Bayanihan. It makes
people embrace the spirit of volunteering. With the act of Bayanihan, it is important to help
each other out especially for the improvement that benefits the quality of education of the
youth. The head of schools, who take part as the lead role in conducting activities, together
with the volunteers makes the whole innovation possible Helping one another and doing a
task together, thus lessening the workload and making the job easier without expecting
anything else in return is Bayanihan through Brigada Eskwela.

 As a future teacher if I were given a change to become a school head of a low performing

 First, I will conduct general meeting to explain to the student that they came to the
school for their future not for our future. And explain to the parents and the community
that they must support their children for coming to school because this is for the
betterment of their community in the future.and motivate the teacher to teach
according to the capability of the student and not just basing by the book for it is also a
reason if the student don’t understand and the teacher still going forward to the lesson
plan it may caused dismayed to the student.
 Second, I will strickly empliment the bridaga eskwela, for it is also help to tighten the
relationship between the school and community and even the student. For everyone do
bayanihan for the betterment of the school.
 Third. I must conduct even a ones a year friendly games between to student, community
and even the faculty members. Inorder to strenghten the friendship of the student,
community and even the teachers.

1. Based on your experiences or observation, give at least 5 school practices that don’t contibute to
positive culture.
 One is No clear sense of purpose. If school administrators and teachers don't share a
common goal, they will work toward their own agenda, which will eventually create conflict.
Second is Hostile relations among staff, students, and parents. When elephants fight, it's the
grass that suffers. When the adults in the room fight, no one can focus well on the most
important thing: the students. Third is an emphasis on rules over people or mission. This
issue is often created at the district level. Teachers are more focused on the rules than on
serving students and feel they have little latitude to do their jobs. Forth is An absence of
honest dialogue. Principals who avoid difficult conversations with teachers and address
issues by reassigning the teacher or changing a teacher's schedule aren't truly serving kids.
And fifth is more self-preservation than collaboration. When self-preservation takes priority
over serving kids, it's difficult for good ideas and talented teachers to stick around.

1. What is school culture?
 The term school culture generally refers to the beliefs, perceptions, relationships, attitudes,
and written and unwritten rules that shape and influence every aspect of how a school
functions, but the term also encompasses more concrete issues such as the physical and
emotional safety of students, the orderliness of classrooms and public spaces, or the degree
to which a school embraces and celebrates racial, ethnic, linguistic, or cultural diversity.
 Like the larger social culture, a school culture results from both conscious and unconscious
perspectives, values, interactions, and practices, and it is heavily shaped by a school’s
particular institutional history. Students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other staff
members all contribute to their school’s culture, as do other influences such as the
community in which the school is located, the policies that govern how it operates, or the
principles upon which the school was founded.

 Through collective awareness and action, culture can be used positively in order to enhance
student learning and achievement, whether through small actions such as celebrating
achievements in public events, or to more large-scale projects such as developing
democratic processes for teachers, students and other

1) Get to know your students and the lives they live. This is especially important if your students
are from a different cultural or socio-economic background than you. Numerous studies have
shown that cultural misunderstanding between teachers and students can have a hugely negative
impact on students’ educational experience. But research has also shown that teachers who visit
students’ homes and spend time in their communities develop a deep awareness of students’
challenges and needs and are better able to help them.
2) Actively listen to students. A teacher who actively listens to students is listening for the
meaning behind what students are saying, then checks in with them to make sure they’ve
understood properly. This affirms students’ dignity and helps develop a trusting relationship
between teachers and students.
If the chaos of the classroom doesn’t allow you to give this kind of focused listening to a student
who really needs it, then set a time to talk when there are fewer distractions.
3) Ask students for feedback. Choose any topic,it doesn’t have to be academic and have students
write down, in a couple of sentences, what confuses or concerns them most about the topic. By
considering their feedback, you are showing students that you value their opinions and
experiences. It also creates a classroom culture where students feel safe to ask questions and take
chances, which will help them grow academically.
