OUTLINE
Entrepreneurship and small business underlie economic growth and is often taught from a
new venture creation perspective. corporate entrepreneurship drives value creation and
advantage seeking in large organisations. As such, explains how large established firms can
implement entrepreneurialism. The focus of corporate entrepreneurship is broad and rich, and
draws on various scholarly disciplines such as management, economics, psychology and
sociology. This module will provide students with insights into entrepreneurship in large
organisations, through a corporate entrepreneurship lens. The module will critically analyse
subject specific knowledge, theories, concepts and frames. More specifically, will critically
analyse the role and importance of: entrepreneurial traits and antecedent influences;
organisational architecture; management tools and techniques; strategy development; and
creativity and opportunity.

LEARNIING OUTCOMES
By the end of the module, students should be able to:

•demonstrate a systematic understanding of various dimensions of corporate entrepreneurship


and the various forms of corporate entrepreneurship

•analyse and apply different methods for evaluating conditions that foster corporate
entrepreneurship

•critically review conceptual and empirical work relating to the relationship between
corporate entrepreneurship and various organisational outcomes with a particular focus on
strategy development and practise

•distinguish the barriers that constrain managers and their companies from being
entrepreneurial

•communicate and present conceptual and empirical analysis on corporate entrepreneurship


conditions in real world companies

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY AND WEIGHTING


The assessment strategy for this Kaplan Undergraduate module represents the following:
assessment (1) – individual report 2000 words [max]; and assessment (2) – alternative
assessment – individual online essay 1200 words [max].

■ASSESSMENT (1) – Individual report brief [weight 40%]: The individual report reflects a
2000 word (max) piece of coursework and assesses a student’s ability to identify and
understand theories and relate them to different business contexts and situations. In addition,
assesses a student’s ability to undertake research-reading, conceptualise, analyse and write
incisively and clearly.

In the individual report:

First, you are required to review the academic literature pertaining to ‘organisation
structure theory’ in the scholarly field of corporate entrepreneurship [approx. 800
words].

Second, select a successful large entrepreneurial organisation of your choice, then,


demonstrate how it practically builds an entrepreneurial organisation structure
[approx. 800 words].

Introduction [approx. 200 words] and Conclusion [approx. 200 words].
