CHAPTER V

Summary, Findings, Conclusions, and Recommendations

This chapter presents the summary, findings, conclusions and

recommendations drawn based on the results of the study.

Summary

The study entitled “Hog waste management and its effect to the residents

of Brgy. Salaban, San Jose, Batangas” aimed to disseminate information

regarding the effects of improper hog waste management to their daily lives

especially to their health status. Specifically, the respondents seeks to answer

the following questions. First, what are the problems encountered by the

community due to improper hog waste management. Second, what are the

effects of improper hog waste management in terms of the family, school in the

community, and community.

The researchers utilized descriptive research. For data gathering

procedure, researchers conduct a self-administered questionnaire. The

researchers distribute it to the residents from Brgy. Salaban, San Jose,

Batangas and use purposive sampling in choosing the respondents.

The problems faced by the community due to improper hog waste

management are Multiple Population of insects, Negative effects on health

status, and Experiencing Water Population, Affecting Sustainable Economic

development and Skin and eye irritation. The effects of improper hog waste

management to family are respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases,

contamination of water, and losing food appetite, bad odor sticks to clothes and

difficulty in breathing. While the effects of improper hog waste management to

school in the community are uncomfortable going to school, the children’s

academic performance gets affected, and complaints the negative effects, fails to

attend classes and transferred to different school. And the effects of improper

hog waste management to the community are hog waste brings pathological

insects, gives the residents unsanitary environment, and misunderstanding

between piggery owner and the residents, groundwater depletion and

experiencing contagious disease.

Based on the result of the study, the researchers concluded that there are

different problems encountered by the community due to improper hog waste

management and its effect to the health status of residents from Brgy. Salaban.

San Jose, Batangas. The researchers recommended to the barangay officials

that they should implement proper hog waste management in order to live in a

sanitary environment. To the hog raisers, have a proper hog waste disposal to

avoid negative impacts to lives of other people and for the future generations to

live in a clear and fresh water. To the students, they should be knowledgeable

enough to protect and promote environmental safety and precautions.

Findings

Based on the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered, the

following findings were drawn:

1. Problems encountered by the community due to improper hog

waste management

The top three problems faced by the community due to improper hog

waste management are Multiple Population of insects, Negative effects on health

status, and Experiencing Water Population. On the other hand, the remaining two

got the lowest percentage which is Affecting Sustainable Economic development

and Skin and eye irritation.

2. Effects of improper hog waste management in terms:

The top three result in family are Respiratory and gastrointestinal

diseases, contamination of water, and Losing food appetite. On the other hand,

the remaining two percentage are Bad Odor sticks to clothes and Difficulty in

breathing

The top three result in school are Uncomfortable going to school, the

children’s academic performance gets affected, and Complaints the negative

effects. On the other, the two remaining percentage are Fails to attend classes

and transferred to different school.

The top three result in community are Brings pathological insects, Gives

the residents unsanitary environment, and Misunderstanding between piggery

owner and the residents. On the other, the two remaining percentage are

Groundwater depletion and Experiencing contagious disease.

Conclusions

The following conclusions were drawn among the problems faced by the

community of Brgy. Salaban, San Jose, Batangas.

1. Multiple population of insects got the highest percentage that is being

encountered by the residents.

2. In the effects of improper hog waste management bringing

pathological insects like flies and mosquitos greatly affect their health status.

3. The study made an action plan for the residents of Brgy. San Jose,

Batangas to be guided and implementing proper hog waste disposal.

Recommendations

Based on the study, the following items are recommended for the

improvement of the study.

1. To the barangay officials, the community should have an

environmental programs to enrich and protect the environment in order

to have a better place to live in.

2. To the hog raisers, they should take advice from the local barangay

official on how to manage the hog waste.

3. To the learners. Continue studying and having background knowledge

about proper hog waste disposal.

4. To the future researchers, another study must be conducted for the

improvement of this study.
