SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS:
Writing a Position Paper for 50 points

1. Choose an article on a current social issue that you want to discuss and write about. This article shall be
your main reference in developing your position paper.

2. Be guided in choosing the article:


 What social issue do you want to read and write about?
 Is this issue timely and arguable?
 Is this something that affects or will affect you and the people around you?
 If you are not currently affected, why should you be concerned about this?
 What key ideas about this issue do you want to raise awareness on?
 Out of the article you have read, you shall develop your discussion points. Considering your
topic, argument, reasons, and supporting evidences, you shall write your position paper.
 It may be helpful if you visualize yourself as an advocate of the social issue you have chosen to
write about, so that you may be able to reflect thoroughly on the issue at hand, and write an
effective essay on it.

3. Remember the following as you do the task:


On content:
 Write your discussion points about the issue.
 Come up with a creative title for your paper.
 Provide valid and reliable sources that will reinforce ideas presented in your discussion.
 As much as possible, observe proper citation to support your content. Use 7 th Edition APA
format.
 Use the active voice in writing your paper.
 When writing, use the third person point of view; avoid the use of personal pronouns.

On word count:
 Do not exceed 300 words.
 Limit your position paper to two (2) pages.
 Do not include the creative title in the word count.
 Indicate the total word count at the bottom right side of the paper.

On scoring:
 Get a deduction for every instruction missed.
 Refer to the attached rubric.
