Objectives :
At the end of this lesson, the may:
 Describe the characteristics of Solution, Suspension and colloids.
 Compare Miscible and Immiscible Solution.
 Distinguish Solution, Suspension and colloids based on their
characteristics.

Values Infused: Being aware

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic/lesson: Kinds of Mixtures
B. Reference/s: Science Link 6, Rex Pub. Co (pages 50 – 58)
C. Instructional Materials: power point, pictures and video

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Let us all stand up bow our
head and let us pray.

Angel of God, my guardian

dear,
To who God’s love commit me
here,
Amen!
Ever this day be at my side to
light and guard, to rule and
guide. Amen! Good morning teacher!

2. Greetings
Good morning every one!

3. Checking of attendance

meeting)
Mixtures is a combination of two or
B. Lesson Proper more substances.
1. Review
In our passed lesson what is
mixtures?
Very good!

How about the differences

between homogeneous and
heterogeneous mixture? Homogeneous mixture is a mixture that
has uniform composition throughout.
Heterogeneous mixture is a mixture
that does not have uniform
Very good! composition

2. Discussion
Now let us proceed in our
discussion the kinds of
mixtures. Yes teacher! It’s all about Solution,
Do have any idea about kinds Suspension and Colloids.
of mixtures?

Very good!

There are three kinds of

mixtures: Solution,
Suspension and Colloids.

1. Solution – it is
homogeneous having two
or more components
uniformly distributed. It also
formed when one
substance is dissolved in
another substance.
Solvent – is the substance
in which solute is
dissolved.
Solute - is the substance
that is dissolved in a
solution.

Example:
Water and Salt

“Solution might exist in solid, liquid

and gas”

Gaseous Solution

Balloons

Liquid Solution

Wine

Solid Solution
Teacher! Milk and water is an example
Faucet of solution.

Can you give me any

examples of Solution?

Very good!

“Miscible and Immiscible Solution”

Miscible Solution
• Is formed when two soluble
liquids dissolve each other.
Example:

Coconut milk & Water

Immiscible Solution
• Is formed when two liquids are
insoluble to each other.
Example:

Yes teacher! It is a combination

of two liquids substance.

Oil & Water

Do you understand what
miscible and immiscible solution?
2.Suspension
• Is a heterogeneous mixture
containing larger particles that
settle out when left undisturbed.

Examples:

3.Colloids
• Is a heterogeneous mixture with
intermediate particle size between
a solution and a suspension.

Examples:

Whipped Cream
Smog Teacher! The three kinds of
3.Generalization Mixtures are Solution,
Suspension and Colloids.
What are the three kinds of
Mixtures and their characteristic?
Solution is homogeneous having two
or more components uniformly
Very good! How about their distributed.
characteristics?
Suspension is heterogeneous mixture
containing large particles that settle out
when left on disturbed.

Colloids is heterogeneous mixture with

intermediate particle size between
solution and suspension

IV. Evaluation
Determine if the following mixture are
solution, suspension or colloids. Write
you answer before the number.

____________1. Salt and water

____________2. Smog
____________3. oil and water
____________4. Vinegar
____________5. Blood
____________6. Milk
____________7. Smoke
____________8. Alloy
____________9. Cough syrup
____________10. Soft drink

V. Assignment
Give at least two (2) examples of each
solution, suspension, and colloids.

Solution Suspension Colloids

1. 1. 1.
2. 2. 2.
