Recall that an element is made up of only

one type of atom
OOOO

Recall that a mixture is made of two or

more different elements not chemically OOOO
bonded together.

Recall that a compound is made of two or

more elements chemically bonded OOOO
together

Identify metals and non-metals using the periodic table. OOOO

Recall common properties of metals and non-metals.

Metals Non-metals
OOOO
Conductor, shiny, high melting Insulator, dull, brittle (breaks
point, left-side of periodic table, easily), right-side of periodic table,
three magnetic metals (Ni, Fe, Co). there are no magnetic non-metals.

Recall that when two elements join together they usually form an –ide
E.G. Iron + Oxygen  Iron Oxide
OOOO

Recall that three elements or more that include oxygen form an –ate
E.G. Calcium + Carbon + Oxygen  Calcium Carbonate
OOOO

Recall that all atoms have mass, including gases.

E.G. Magnesium (24g) + Oxygen (16g)  Magnesium Oxide (40g)
