SET NO:- 3
Q.NO. Questions
The pressure, temperature and Mach number at the entry of a flow passage are 2.45
bar, 26.5◦C and 1.4 respectively. If the exit Mach number is 2.5, determine for
adiabatic flow of a perfect gas (γ=1.3, R = 0.469 kJ/kg.K);
1. (i) Stagnation temperature
(ii) Temperature and velocity of gas at exit, and
(iii) The flow rate per square metre of the inlet cross-section
Air (γ=1.38, cp = 1.05 kJ/kg.K) at p1 = 5 x 105 N/m2 and T1 = 550 K flows with a
velocity of 200m/s in a 30 cm duct. Calculate:
(i) Mass flow rate
2. (ii) Stagnation temperature
(iii) Mach number
(iv) Stagnation pressure values assuming the flow as compressible and
incompressible
An aircraft is flying at an altitude of 14000 m at a Mach number of 0.82. The cross
sectional area of the inlet diffuser before the L.P compressor stage is 0.5 m2.
Determine
3.
(i) The mass of air entering the compressor per second.
(ii) The speed of the aircraft
(iii) The stagnation pressure and temperature of air at the diffuser entry.
4. Give the difference between nozzle and venture.

5. Sketch and name the various regions of flow

6. Compare compressible flow and incompressible flow

7. What do you mean by bulk modulus of elasticity

8. What is the function of Mach number

9. Shall we use M* instead of M. Justify the statement

10. What is meant by isentropic flow with variable area?

If an aero plane goes to higher altitudes maintaining the same speed what will
11. happen to the Mach number?
12. What is meant by hypersonic flow?

13. What do you mean by reversible and irreversible process?
