PETA 01 ELECTRIC FORCE AND FIELD SUPERPOSITION

I. Performance Standard:

Calculate the electric force between charges using Coulomb’s Law


Calculate the net electric force on a point charge exerted by a system of point charges
Calculate the electric field due to a system of point charges using Coulomb’s law and the superposition
principle

II. Description:

The learners illustrate the electric force exerting on each point charges and the electric field induces
on a point in space.
The learners calculate the magnitude and direction of net electric force exerting to one focused charge
and the net electric field acting on a point in space.

III. Given:

This task will be completed by pair. Given the three (3) problems related to the superposition of
electric force and electric field, student will answer each problem with accordance to the rubric of
solving problem. The rating of each criterion will vary according to the maximum points of each
problem.
IV. Requirement:

The problem set is given below:


PROBLEM 1: (10 pts)
The electron and proton of a hydrogen atom are separated (on the average) by a distance of about
5.3𝑥10−11 𝑚. Find the magnitudes of the electric force and the gravitational force that each particle exerts
on the other, and the ratio of the electric force ⃗⃗⃗

𝑞𝐶 = 6.0𝑥10−9 𝐶.
(a) Find the components of the force ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝐹𝐵𝐶 exerted by 𝑞𝐵 on 𝑞𝐶 .
(b) Find the components of the force ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝐹𝐴𝐶 exerted by 𝑞𝐴 on 𝑞𝐶 .
(c) Find the resultant force on 𝑞𝐶 in terms of magnitude and direction (angle and direction).
