Valladolid Yucatán a 13 de Febrero de 2022

I live in Valladolid, Yucatán

Valladolid is a hospitable city full of history that makes Yucatan proud, it is one of
those destinations where time passes serenely, breathing the air of an ancient
Mayan town rich in traditions. Walking through its streets, with its mansions painted
in bright colors, the neighborhoods with their churches and of course the imposing
convent of San Bernardino de Siena, palpable trace of the Franciscan presence

throughout the peninsula, is to return to the past

The streets and neighborhoods of Valladolid tell us about important moments in the
history of our country, such as the Caste War, the Colony and the first spark of the
Mexican Revolution. And, as if that were not enough, where nature reveals itself in
the form of cenotes. Its welcoming Main Park offers the shade of its laurels to
locals and strangers, and in the afternoon the birds fill the environment with their
trills, announcing the end of the day.

location:
Valladolid is located in the state of
Yucatan and is bordered to the
north by Temozon, to the south by
Cuncunul-Tekom-Chichimila, to the
east by Chemax, and to the west
by Cuncunul-Uayma.
Valladolid is also called “the pearl
of the Mayan East”, because it is
located in the middle of the two
most important tourist cities of the
Yucatan Peninsula: Mérida and
Cancún, separated by 160
kilometers.
Tourist places:

The San Roque Museum occupies

the space that was once the main
hospital in Valladolid and, later, the
church of San Roque. Also, at some
point it was the first power plant that
supplied the city.
Today, behind its terracotta-colored
walls, there are four rooms that
exhibit the pre-Hispanic life of the city
with objects found during the
excavations of Ek Balam and its
founding stage and historical
moments such as the Caste War and
piracy, since Valladolid was refuge of
the famous pirate “Lorencillos”.
Another room, a space that corresponded to the sacristy of the church, there are
elements related to Mayan medicine, as well as traditions and crafts.

Cenote Zaci

The Cenote Zací is a cavern with a half-collapsed

roof that is located in the heart of Valladolid. The
vegetation adhered to its walls and the number of
stalagmites and stalactins print a special landscape.
Its depth ranges from 25 to 100 meters.

Convent of San Bernardino

The Convent of San Bernardino, with its discreet Franciscan style and its
majestic structure, is an architectural treasure. The main altarpiece was made of
gold wood, with structures and motifs that give it an unmistakable baroque air.
The Convent of San Bernardino de
Siena was founded by the Franciscans
recently arrived in Yucatan, this being
one of the 7 built throughout the state,
the San Bernardino is the second
largest, only after Izamal.
This convent was the first
headquarters of the Franciscans in
Valladolid, inside it still houses some vestiges that served during the process of
evangelization of the Mayans, here began the process of conversion to
Catholicism.
I like Valladolid because it is a quiet and welcoming place. I like living in Valladolid
because of the warmth, hospitality and
empathy shown by its people. Its
gastronomy is exquisite and unique for me.
What I like most about Valladolid is its
gastronomy and hospitality.
The large part of the population that lives in
Valladolid is dedicated to commerce and
tourism, the towns that surround the
municipality are dedicated to agriculture and
the creation of handicrafts.
