Story of Redemption

Creation: Genesis 1:1: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Image of God: Genesis 1:27-28: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he
created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them,
“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the
sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

The Fall: Genesis 3:1-7: Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that
the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any
tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in
the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the
garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will
not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be
like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and
that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took
of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then
the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves
together and made themselves loincloths.

First Proclamation of the Gospel: Genesis 3:15: I will put enmity between you and the
woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall
bruise his heel.”

God’s Promise of a People: Genesis 12:1-3: Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country
and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you
a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I
will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families
of the earth shall be blessed.”

The Coming Messiah: Isaiah 53: Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom
has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a
root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty
that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and
acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we
esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him
stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was
crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his
wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his
own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was
afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep
that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he
was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land
of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the
wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no
deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his
soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of
the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by
his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and
he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall
divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered
with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the
transgressors.

Birth of Jesus: Luke 2:8-14: And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field,
keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the
glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to
them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For
unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a
sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And
suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Word Became Flesh: John 1:1-14: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him,
and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the
light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a
man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the
light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about
the light. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the
world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his
own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his
name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will
of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus’ Ministry: Luke 4:16-21: And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as
was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And
the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place
where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to
proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and
recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year
of the Lord's favor.” And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down.
And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today
this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
Only Savior: John 14:6: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus’ Death: John 19:28-30: After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill
the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour
wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he
said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Jesus’ Burial: Mark 15:46: And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped
him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a
stone against the entrance of the tomb.

Jesus’ Resurrection: Luke 24:1-6: But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to
the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the
tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were
perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were
frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the
living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was
still in Galilee,

Great Commission: Matthew 28:18-20: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the
age.”

Jesus’ Ascension: Acts 1:8-11: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of
the earth.” And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a
cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold,
two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into
heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you
saw him go into heaven.”

Just Shall Live by Faith: Romans 1:16-17: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power
of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the
righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by
faith.”

All Have Sinned: Romans 3:23: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Wages of Sin: Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Believe and Confess: Romans 10:9-10: Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is
Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with
the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Restored to the Garden: Revelation 22:1-5: Then the angel showed me the river of the water of
life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the
street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit,
yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No
longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and
his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And
night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light,
and they will reign forever and ever.
