Westmoreland Fayette Council, Boy Scouts of

America For the November outing our Troop stayed at Camp Bucoco
https://www.facebook.com/WestmorelandFayette in Slippery Rock Township. Camp Bucoco is part of the Moraine
BSA/ Trails Council and serves as the resident camp during the summer.
Bushy Run District, Boy Scouts of America We stayed in the Nujela Cabin, and scouts who participated included
https://www.facebook.com/bushyrunBSA/ Ethan C., Zach C., David H., A.J. M, Zach M., Alex N., Seth O.,
Quentin Q., Anthony S., Brendan Z., Mason Z., and myself. The
leaders included Mr. Dzaack, Mr. Marflak, Mr. Corlazzoli, Mr.
Suranski, and Mr. Gunzburger. The outing theme was Wilderness
Survival, and Mr. Suranski gave a good instructional talk about this
subject. In the afternoon we put these skills into practice with a
competition on building shelters and fires. The weather wasn’t the
greatest, but we made the best of it. The wood stove in the cabin
worked so good that we couldn’t keep all the doors closed without
roasting. We also had some good food, and the menu included
chicken quesadilla mountain pies, smokehouse burgers, pulled pork
sandwiches, smoked chicken, and funnel cakes. It was a great time
with lots of good skill building and fellowship. Good memories were
made!

Light Up Night Float Build
By Michael M.

On November 13th, Boy Scout Troop 284 worked

on the float that was to be displayed in the Irwin Light
Up Night Parade. The members of the troop worked
together to make a realistic winter camping themed
float using many skills that they have acquired. They
lashed a tripod and put up a tent to display on the
float, too. After fixing a prop turkey over a simulated
campfire, the troop laid prop snow and put up two
Christmas trees to complete the look. Unfortunately,
Troop 284 was forced to back out of the parade due to
bitter, icy weather. Come to Irwin Light Up Night next
year to see next year’s unbelievable hand-made float!
