Boy have our Scouts been busy! As the scout law states… a scout is helpful. The scouts of Troop 284 provided
many hours of service to the community. David H. earned service hours helping service dinner at Girl Scout Troop
20216’s Bridging Ceremony. AJ, Zach C, Collin and David H. all worked eight hours at the Relay for Life handing out
water to walkers. They also set up many luminaries around the track and in the stands. Also in the months of May
and June, Collin, both David H’s, Marty, Louie, A.J. and Brendan all helped out at the Lions Club Chicken BBQ.
Louie, A.J., Zach C. and Tyler F. all volunteered at Cub Scout Day camp.

F., Collin G., David W. H., David H., A.J. M., Joseph M., Zach M., Alex N., Marty T., Brendan Z., and Ryan Z.
Leaders attending this year included: Bob B., Rick M., Lee M., Walt M., Marty T., Joe C., Mike C., Dave H., Randy

For more than 100 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has recognized Scouts who best exemplify the
Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals
as well. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long-
term resident camping, developing leaders, and providing cheerful service to others. This year the Order of the
Arrow Tap Out was held on Parents Night and A.J. M., Zach M., and Mr. Marflak were tapped out.
Congratulations!
Throughout the week many activities and merit badges were worked on by the scouts and leaders. Troop
284 was recognized with a variety of awards this year. Our troop was awarded the True Scout Campsite Award,
the Camp Adventure Award and the Camp Spirit Award. The Camp Spirit Award is the coveted award given to
only one troop each week of summer camp. It was earned based on the number of merit badges earned (67),
camp site inspections, adult participation, and service projects. The adult leaders completed daily service
projects of removing tree stumps. In receiving this award our troop number will be embossed on the plaque at
camp.
In addition to troop awards some individual scouts and leaders were recognized. Mr. Tougher was the
only adult to receive an award for his tomahawk throwing skills. Alex N. was recognized by the nature pavilion
for his adaptive creature creation. Andrew B. and Adam B. also received recognition.
