Grundfos motors achieve highest energy

efficiency rating worldwide

Grundfos introducing new MGE IE5 motor
▪ New MGE motor up to 11kW

▪ IE5 – the highest energy efficiency class

worldwide for electrical motors

▪ IEC 60034-30-2 for variable speed (only) AC

motors approved – Grundfos motors among the
first IE5 motors on the market

▪ Permanent magnet technology achieves the IE5

level that will never be reached with a traditional
motor and VFD

10% energy savings and 25% reduction in
payback compared to IE3 motors
• Grundfos is excited to introduce one of the world’s most efficient motors, the new
MGE with IE5 motors, which offers 10% energy savings and up to 25% reduction in
payback time of controlled E-pumps compared to IE3 solution.

• Delivering an unprecedented level of performance, this ground breaking motor by

far exceeds the coming IE3 legislative demands to meet the strictest criteria of IE5 –
the highest energy efficiency level for electrical motors. All Grundfos MGE motors –
from 0.75 kW to 11 kW – have attained IE5 status.

• The key to these MGE motors unparalleled performance lies in their state-of-the-art
intelligent solutions. These will adapt to the surrounding system and, coupled with
the high-efficiency IE5 motor with integrated frequency converter, drive your
energy consumption down considerable.

Multi-pump function
The new generation MGE way!
- All pumps are able to be Master
- Multi master concept
- But only one at a time

How?
- Primary sensor on 2 pumps (Can also fit on all
pumps if required)
- If the sensor/pump fails then another pump
will automatically take control of the system
Multi Master Concept
- Any traditional multi pump booster will have 1 controller that controls the multiple pumps in
the system. The disadvantage is that the controller is a single point of failure (If the controller
fails the systems fails}
- The Multi Master Concept overcomes this issue by allowing all CRE’s (with Sensor Fitted)
to be the Master and control all other pumps on the system.
- I the unlikely event of the a CRE failure, any other CRE on the system will seamlessly take
over control

Multi pump – Assist on HMI screen

On the display of the HMI for both pumps, the symbol Indicates that both pumps in
connected in a multi-pump setup.

For Pump 1 indicates that Pump 1 is the Master pump

For Pump 2 Indicates that Pump 2 is the Slave pump

Pipe filling function
• Ensures smooth start up of systems with empty
pipes without the risk of having water hammer.
• Automatically enables in the event of power
supply off/on with low system pressure.
• In case of a major pipe burst e.g. high rise
building, this function will be able to detect the
fault and stop the pump, protecting the building
from expensive flooding.

Outdoor Installation

If you install the motor outdoors, provide the

motor with a suitable cover and open the drain
holes to avoid condensation on the electronic
components.

When fitting a cover to the motor, observe the

guidelines.

The cover must be sufficiently large to ensure External Protection Ratings

that the motor is not exposed to direct sunlight, ▪ IP55 Standard
rain or snow. In areas with high humidity, we
▪ IP65 Optional
recommend that you enable the built-in
standstill heating function.

For additional information refer to product I&O

Rain Canopy Kits
• Allows for outdoor installation*

*Standstill heating function should also be enabled

Adding a CIM module in mge
1. Remove t/box cover (4 screws)
2. Remove black plastic dust cover
3. Remove earthing screw from stud under dust cover
4. Insert CIM card by push it directly down onto the 3 plastic location
pins. Refit and tighten earthing screw, refit dust cover and t/box cover

Installing a CIM card allows for SCADA Bus communication in all common field bus protocols –
LON, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, Bacnet MS/TP, Bacnet IP
