INTERIM GUIDELINES ON INTEGRATED HELMINTH CONTROL PROGRAM AND

SCHISTOSOMIASIS CONTROL AND ELIMINATION PROGRAM DURING THE
COVID-19 PANDEMIC

All School Health Section Personnel
All Others Concerned

1. This is in reference to Department of Health Memorandum No. 2020-0260

dated May 19, 2020 and DOH Regional Memorandum No. 0317, s. 2020 regarding
the Implementation of Mass Drug Administration (MDA) for Integrated Helminth
Control Program (IHCP) during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

2. Given the current challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the
Department of Health (DOH) issued the Department Circular 2020-0167 otherwise
known as the “Continuous Provision of Health Services during the COVID-19
pandemic” the importance of maintaining essential health services during the
crisis.”

3. In response to this, the CHD SOCCSKSARGEN Region through the

Integrated Helminth Control Program (IHCP) issued an advisory on the
implementation of Mass Drug Administration for Integrated Helminth Control
Program.

4. Anent this, the following shall be observed:

a. Consistent physical distancing measures program for activities or

interventions that require mass gatherings and aggregation of clients or
patients like Mass Drug Administration (MDA) or deworming campaigns are
postponed until further noticed;

b. No Mass Drug Administration campaign shall be conducted in schools

due to suspension of classes;

c. Routine deworming of children ages 1-19 years old will be

administered in the community through individual approach maintaining
physical distancing and appropriate Infection Prevention Control (IPC)
measures;

d. With the postponement of school MDA, the LGU will cover the MDA
for the 4-19 years old school age group in the community using individual
approach;

e. Deworming drugs should not be given simultaneously with bOPV on

(July 20 – August 2, 2020) but maybe administered two weeks before and
after the bOPV campaign; and

f. Submission of MDA reports shall be on August 25-27, 2020.

5. Immediate dissemination of this memorandum is desired.
