STORY REVIEW
Long-short story, Bilbo Baggins, an adventurous
hobbit of the Took family and a Baggins who prefers to
enjoy the comforts of life, has a visit to his burrow in
Bag's End. Gandalf the wizard, offered Bilbo an
unforgettable adventure, which he immediately refused.
Bilbo is too comfortable in his comfort zone, even
though his Took blood actually yearns for thrilling
adventures. Unexpectedly, the next day Gandalf even
introduced him as a thief to the thirteen dwarves. Fili,
Kili, Balin, Dwalin, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur,
Bofur, Bombur, and their leader, Thorin Oakenshield.
They took Bilbo who was considered a great thief, even though Bilbo had never been a thief
in his life, but with Gandalf's cunning and shrewd wits, and the courage that had been hidden
in Bilbo, the fourteen of them traversed Middle Earth. Trying to penetrate the Misty
Mountains, stopping at Rivendell, where Lord Elrond resides. Then attacked by trolls,
goblins and wild wolves named Warg, then helped by a shapeshifter named Beorn.
Previously Bilbo stumbled into a cave inhabited by a creature named Gollum, who for Lords
of The Ring fans, will know this event will change Middle Earth forever, after Bilbo finds
and claims Gollum's magic ring.
Their adventure still continues. After meeting Beorn, Bilbo and his friends get lost in the
Mirkwood forest, because Gandalf is no longer with them. Worse, Bilbo was attacked by
spiders from the enemies of the Elves, and Thorin was captured by the Elf King. Bilbo's
ingenuity again saved them all. They then crossed Esgaroth, and came to the Lonely
Mountain where Smaug resided. Unfortunately the problem is not over when Smaug no
longer has control of the Dwarves' treasure, because Bilbo is about to face a Great War that
will change his life.
I think, if fantasy nowadays like The Hobbit. Not full of love triangles, the world is falling
apart, the story execution sucks, it would be masterpiece, like The Hobbit which has simple
premise, but rich in meaning. Tolkien, through Bilbo Baggins, seems to want to say that we,
whether important or not, rich or poor, beautiful or ugly, we can change the world. Bilbo as a
hobbit who was initially belittled, considered a burden, turned out to be the most courageous,
even though he grumbled because he had lost the comfort of his home burrow. It would be
wonderful if a fantasy book, especially for children, like The Hobbit. It is so exciting and
invites the reader to take part in the adventure and humor typical of Tolkien's style.
