DOCUMENTARY REVIEW
THE JOY OF AI

An AI can look at an image of a dog and deduce what it symbolizes from the pixels, but it has no
idea what a dog is. It doesn't understand the word 'dog.' As a result, while it can perform certain tasks
more quickly and effectively, it is not intelligent in the sense that we would define it. When people
discuss artificial intelligence (AI), they usually mean something broad. SIRI and Alexa, for example, assist
in answering inquiries by sounding intelligent and figuring things out for you. But what it's really doing is
running an algorithm and crunching numbers. A complex computer program can perform tasks far faster
than the human brain. Professor Jim Al-Khalili examines how we've produced technologies that can
replicate, augment, and even outperform the human intellect - and why we shouldn't be alarmed. He
tells the story of AI's pursuit, the rise of machine learning, and the latest achievements made possible by
artificial neural networks. And he contends that AI is a powerful new instrument that should improve
rather than replace our lives. We define 'true intelligence' as a computer learning how to accomplish
something rather than just following instructions from a programmer. Modern AI devices use neural
networks, which are designed to replicate our brain in some ways. A neural network is an abstract
mathematical representation of the human brain that is beginning to demonstrate true intelligence by
any standard.

BREAKTHROUGH

Jim Allison was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2018 for his discovery of the immune
system's function in cancer treatment. For decades, he fought alone against the medical establishment's
skepticism and Big Pharma's opposition. Breakthrough by Jim Allison transports us to the fascinating and
dramatic realm of cutting-edge medical, as well as into the heart of a true American pioneer. The picture
is both emotionally and intellectually fascinating. Jim Allison won the Nobel Prize for uncovering the
immune system's involvement in cancer treatment, but his long journey was fraught with setbacks and
criticism. Jim Allison: Breakthrough is an ode to an atypical superhero, telling the narrative of one
warmhearted, tenacious man's imaginative quest to find a treatment for cancer. Woody Harrelson and
Bill Haney star in this film about Allison Williams, who discovered the T-cell receptor and its importance
in cancer treatment. As a result of his seminal finding, he was at conflict with the whole medical
profession at the time, and he suffered numerous setbacks. The film is about a little kid whose life is
destroyed when he loses his mother to cancer, and how he discovers a treatment for the sickness that
has had such a devastating influence on his life.
