The rendering process is applied on a large scale to the production of animal fats

such as tallow, lard, bone fat, and whale oil. It consists of cutting or chopping the
fatty tissue into small pieces that are boiled in open vats or cooked in steam
digesters.

Animal fat
1 Suet
2 Dripping

Suet- Suet is made from the fat that surrounds the kidneys of animals (mostly cows
and mutton). The fat is removed from the meat, clarified, chopped, and then boiled
in water, which removes any impurities. Upon cooling, the water and fat separate
and the remaining fat is suet.

Commercial Product-
Dripping- Dripping is the fat released during the roasting of a joint of meat. On
cooling, it separates into a layer of fat and a layer of meat extractives in a jelly.

2 Linseed

Palm- It's an edible vegetable oil that comes from the fruit of oil palm trees. Two
types of oil can be produced; crude palm oil comes from squeezing the fleshy fruit,
and palm kernel oil which comes from crushing the kernel, or the stone in the
middle of the fruit.
Commercial Product-

Linseed Oil- Linseed oil, also known as flaxseed oil or flax oil (in its edible form),
is a colourless to yellowish oil obtained from the dried, ripened seeds of the flax
plant. The oil is obtained by pressing, sometimes followed by solvent extraction.

Commercial Product-

1 Cod Liver Oil
2 Whale Oil

Cod Liver Oil- Fresh cod livers are digested by steam, water, acid, or alkali to
produce the oil. Medicinal grades are chilled, and congealed stearic acid and other
fatty acids are filtered off.

Commercial Product-
Whale Oil- Whale oil, also called train oil, any oil derived from any species of
whale. From the 16th century through the 19th century, whale oil was used
principally as lamp fuel and for producing soap.
