1) Define power of lens give its SI unit [1]

2) A converging lens is kept coaxially in contact with a

diverging lens both the lenses being of equal focal length what
is the focal length of the combination [1]

3) A convex lens is placed in contact with a plane mirror, a

point object at a distance of 20cm on the axis of this
combination has its image coinciding by itself what is the
focal length of the lens [1]

4) A glass lens of refractive index 1.5 is placed in a liquid

what must be the refractive index of the liquid in order to
make the lens disappear [1]

5) How does the focal length of a convex lens change if

monochromatic red light is used instead of violet light[1]
6) A spherical convex surface of radius of curvature 20cm

made of glass refractive index 1.5 is placed in air find the

position of the image formed if a point object is placed at
30cm in front of the convex surface on the principal axis. [2]

7) The radius of curvature of each

surface of convex lens is 20 cm and
the refractive index of the material if
1.5 (i)calculate its focal length(ii) if this
is cut along the plane AB what will the
focal length of the each of the two half
so formed (iii)what happens if the lens
is cut along CD? [2]
8) In the given figure rays are coming from infinity and
after passing through both the lenses meet on a screen placed
at a distance of 30 cm from the concave lens calculate the
focal length of the concave lens[2]

9) Derive the expression for lens formula and also derive

the expression for linear magnification using the necessary
diagram[3]

10) Using the ray diagram for a system of two lenses of focal
length f1 and f2 in contact with each other derive an
expression for the equivalent focal length of the combination
(b)Where will the beam of light converge
after refraction through the lens of focal
length 10cm in the given figure[3]
11) Trace the path of parallel beam of light passing through
the convex lens and concave lens when [3]
(i)μ1 < μ2
(ii) μ1 > μ2
(iii) μ1 = μ2

12) Draw a ray diagram showing the formation of the image

by a point object on the principal axis of a spherical convex
surface separating two media of refractive index μ1 and μ2
when a point source is kept in a rarer medium of refractive
index μ1, derive the relation between the object and image
distance in the terms of refractive index of the medium and
radius of curvature of the surface. Also find the expression for
lens maker's formula in case of thin convex lens. [5]
