WITH Mayor Wasim Akhtar in jail, Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra will have to

work hard and share the mayor’s burden. As a Karachiite I would like to point
out to him that there is no way in which a citizen can contact city authorities –
whether bureaucrats or elected.

We do not know if the deputy mayor’s office has an email where concerned
citizens can convey their complaints and expect action. The Karachi
Commissioner has an email (commissionerkarachi@gmail.com) but it seems
non-functional because we do not even get an auto response much less a reply
specific to our complaint

I, therefore, appeal to Mr Vohra to publicise his office’s email number so that

citizens in distress can contact him for ventilation of grievances. I would like to
specially point out the horrendous sanitary situation in the area where I live
(Block 4-A Gulshan-i-Iqbal), especially around Arshad Ali Sabri Park. There is a
school whose manhole spews sewerage, and there are heaps and heaps of
garbage along the park’s boundary. Besides, the road leading from the park to
the Imambargah is in tatters.

To avoid driving through the centre of the road because of potholes cars and
motorcycles stick close to the non-existing footpaths and thus endanger
pedestrians, especially at night. I request Mr Vohra to send a team to the area
to see things for themselves. Even though the Sindh government has taken
away the solid waste management from local bodies, his office can still fix
things right, especially the condition of the road.
